What is a podcast? If you haven’t listened to a podcast, the name may be confusing. It was coined in a newspaper article in 2004 to describe a new vehicle for audio content. The Pod refers to an iPod, the most popular way to listen to portable audio in 2004, and “cast” to reference the term “broadcasting” as we used it then. So, the name was simply a way to describe audio content that could be put on your mobile device and listened to when you wanted. Today, podcasting means audio content on demand.
