E Preparing for a Crisis Abroad
TBA
Speakers: Kerry Geffert, Dan Hart Risk management has become commonplace in all education abroad programs. Whether with an external organization or led by a faculty member, advisers and risk managers must be prepared should something happen with a student overseas, or in the area where a group is located. Become more familiar with the education abroad perspective through participation in tabletop exercises and learn about at least one campus' plans. As a result of participating in this session, attendees will be able to address their roles in managing risk for their education abroad programs, be able to identify risk management procedures to include in their education abroad office protocols, and be able to practice their education abroad risk management skills in a reallife scenario. 2:00pm – 3:00pm
E Best Practices for Managing the Risk and Protection of Minors on a Higher Education Campus
TBA
Speakers: Jocelyn Gehring, Joshua Richards In light of an increased focus on the legal, moral and social obligations higher education institutions are required to abide by in connection with minors on campus regulations, leaders of higher education institutions must now be particularly cognizant of the associated risk management involved with having minors on campus. This presentation will provide a general overview of the legal issues involved with having minors present on a higher education campus, as well as a review of the minors on campus laws over the years. Presenters Joshua Richards and a copanelist will explore, through the use of real time examples, how the minors on campus regulations affect the higher education industry in general, as well a helpful guide of best practices for minors on campus, higher education institutions should consider in terms of risk management. As a result of participating in this session, attendees will have a better understanding of the current state of law and standards of care concerning Minors on Campus and will be provided an overview of the evolution of the law over the years, along with some pitfalls commonly associated with MinorsonCampus policies. Additionally, attendees will be able to correctly identify “a minor” and understand the potential exposures on campus involving minors, including an analysis on risk management. Attendees will also leave the program with best practices campus leadership can take to ensure all appropriate measures are considered in terms of minors on campus, more specifically best practices on mandatory reporting, post incident and policy. 3:15pm – 4:15pm
E Student Organization Management – A Tale of Two Coasts
TBA
Speakers: Samuel Florio, Marjorie Lemmon The risks presented by student organizations can be some of the most complex faced by an institution. Large scale campus events, international travel, service activities, interaction with minors, performing arts, faithbased activities, Greek letter organizations—it’s enough to keep a Risk Manager up at night. Management and oversight of student organizations and the risks they present vary greatly from institution to institution. At this session we will compare and contrast the approaches taken by a midsized west coast university and an east coast research institution. How are they alike? How do they differ with respect to structure, administration, training, guidelines and responsibilities? How do they leverage technology and other tools? Come find out which coast is truly the best coast! As a result of participating in this session, attendees will learn ways to manage risks presented by student organizations, learn about tools that can be used to facilitate the management of the risks, and take home sample guidelines, language for use in waivers and informed consents, and checklists that may be utilized at their home institutions. 5:00pm – 6:30pm

E Lessons Learned from Maricopa’s Cyber Event
TBA
Speakers: Ed Kelty, Willa Morgan, Miguel Hernandez IV PhD, Sheri Swain In 2013, Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) experienced what we thought was a major data breach and it was confirmed that was not the case. There were lessons learned from that incident and many changes were made in Maricopa, deficiencies in the area of policy, best practices, technology, infrastructure, and organizational structure. All came together to model the new Maricopa world as told by the Director of Enterprise Risk Management, Chief Privacy Officer, Chief Security Officer and Vice Chancellor of Information Technology. As a result of participating in this session, attendees will develop policy and best practices, evaluate and establish an organizational structure to include the correct departments/staff to address a cyber incident and be able to identify and develop a leadership model to ensure open communication and team approach. 10:15am – 11:30am
E Drones at the University of California: Mitigation of Risks through Collaboration and Shared Resources
Speakers: Sarine Hendershot, Nidavone Niravanh, Brandon Stark Unmanned Aircraft Systems ("UAS"), or more commonly known as drones, are increasingly being utilized all across university campuses. Researchers have been developing drones for a wide variety of applications such as critical infrastructure inspections, agriculture and digital archeology, while students and staff are increasing looking to utilize drones for photography, journalism and recreational activities. Learn about how UC Center of Excellence (“COE”) on UAS Safety, supports the campuses on the new drone laws and how to quickly, easily and cheaply get yourself ready to utilize drones for any purpose. Come learn about the resources available to get you going, UC policies and other tidbits of information to keep you flying safely and legally. We will also learn about how UCI’s UAS Committee, along with the COE, supports the campus’ mission while mitigating risks. Hear from UCI EHS and Risk Services experts on implementing campus protocols, best practices and challenges in mitigating risks while ensuring UAS safety protocols are inplace at the campus level. As a result of participating in this session, attendees will obtain an understanding of the FAA UAS requirements for universities and the evolving challenges; be able to identify risks and exposures from UAS usage from both campus affiliates, students and visitors; and understand UC's COE and UCI's established protocols to mitigate risks and comply with FAA guidelines.
