Game Regulations PLAYERS: An official team shall consist of a minimum of four (4) players and a maximum of six (6) players on the field. Games may be started with a minimum of three (3) players. Teams may have an unlimited number of batters. SUBSTITUTIONS: The captain making substitutions shall notify the supervisor of any changes. A team may not make substitutions in the middle of an inning, unless for injury. GAME LENGTH: A 30 minute time limit will be enforced by the Competitive Sports Supervisor. Teams will not receive any time outs. Injury time outs may be determined only by the supervisor. OVERTIME: No extra innings will be permitted during pool play. A team will receive 1 point for a tie. (3 points for a win, 0 for a loss). During playoffs extra innings will be played until a winner is determined. OFFICIALS: No officials will be present. A Competitive Sports Supervisor will provide oversight and aid with operations of the sport. Please alert the supervisor if assistance is needed. It is recommended that any disagreements be resolved with a replay. PLAYING AREA: The playing surface is on Stuart Field. Two fields can potentially be used with bases set up so the batters will be hitting away from each other. MERCY RULE: There is no mercy rule for this tournament.
Sport Specific Rules OVERVIEW: A game consists of six innings or 30 minutes, whichever comes first. No new innings can begin after the 30minute time limit has expired. There is a seven run limit per team per inning. However, if a team has players on base with 4, 5, or 6 runs, they could reach as many as 10 runs in that inning with an extra base hit. EX: If a team has 6 runs scored that inning and bases load and hits a home run, that team scores ten runs in the inning. There is no run limit in the 6th inning. PITCHING: Pitches may be overhand or underhand. A strike zone will be established through the use of a lawn chair. To be considered a strike a pitched ball must pass over the plate with a height above the batter’s knees and below the batter’s shoulders and contacts the chair (a pitch hitting the legs of the chair is considered a ball if not swung at). Any pitch not meeting the height, distance, or chair requirements is considered a ball if not swung at. BATTING: Batters start each at bat with zero (0) balls and one (1) strike. Batters will be called out following a third strike or a second foul ball after having two strikes. If a batter receives four (4) balls, then they will receive a walk. Bunting is not allowed. The ball cannot make contact with the ground before being hit. The infield fly rule will not apply.
BASE RUNNING: Runners can't lead off or steal bases. The runner can't leave a base until the pitch is contacted by the batter. A runner is out when he/she is struck with a fairly batted ball in fair territory provided the ball has not passed an infielder, excluding the pitcher. Base runners are responsible for avoiding all collisions with fielders anytime a fielder is making a play on the ball (fielding, throwing, or catching). If the base runner does not avoid the collision, they will be called out and are also liable to ejection at the supervisor's discretion. A base runner may not charge into a fielder hoping to dislodge the ball. The runner will be called "out", and if the action was flagrant, ejected. Any fielder not making a play on the ball is liable to ejection from the game if they interfere with a base runner or cause a collision with a base runner. (This includes rundowns). Sliding is not allowed. A violation of this rule will result in the runner being out. The ball may not be thrown at the base runner to get them "out". If this occurs, it will be a one base error. (ex. a runner going to first gets second). In the event that a team is batting with only four players and a player is on base when it is his/her turn to bat, the player shall vacate the base to come to bat. No out will be recorded. No ghost runner will be permitted. The runner simply loses his/her chance to score a run. Once the ball is in possession of the pitcher of the fielding team on the pitcher’s mound, runners may not continue advancing past the base they are on their way to at that time. Discrepancies with this will be ruled on by the official or supervisor on duty. All rulings made by the official or supervisor are final. OVERTHROW: There is no overthrow rule. Runners may advance at their own risk until the play is called "dead" by the supervisor or a ball is secured by the pitcher on the mound. Any ball going over through or under the fence will be declared a “dead” ball. PITCHERS POISON: If a ball is hit and then thrown to the pitcher before the furthest runner reaches their next base where there is a force out that runner is out. Examples of this included runners going from 3rd to home, 2nd to 3rd, 1st to 2nd, and a batter trying to reach 1st base. If there is no force out at a base the runner is not automatically out and can be put out with a tag.
Coed Rules PLAYERS: An official team shall consist of a minimum of four (4) players and a maximum of six (6) players on the field. There cannot be a difference of more than one (1) of each gender. Games may be started with a minimum of three (3) players. Teams may have an unlimited number of batters. Legal combinations of players include: ● 3 Females, 3 Males ● 3 Females, 2 Males ● 2 Females, 3 Males ● 2 Females, 2 Males ● 1 Female, 2 Males ● 2 Females, 1 Male BATTING ORDER: Each team may bat as many players as they wish. The order must alternate genders. If the number of males and females are not even, the batting order still must alternate. (I.e. Each gender will have a batting order but the order of genders will alternate)
WALKS: If a male batter is walked, the batter advances to second base. If there are two outs and the male batter is walked, the female batter has the option of walking to first base. If runners are on base all base runners advance normally. There are no restrictions on walks to female batters.
