UH Pledge Class Newsletter The Fall Pledge class of 2012 has officially begun, and we have hit the ground running. We began on September 30th with 23 pledges, and now in the 4th week we are now down to 12 pledges.

Gong Show

AnchorSplash

The pledges have already begun participating in many philanthropic events on campus. On October 17, we participated in the Delta Zeta Gong Show in the Houston room of the University Center, and all of the proceeds will be going to the Center for Hearing and Speech. We were coached by Sweethearts Katelyn Surface and Helena Weathersby, and also Delta Zeta active Stanica Matijevich.

The pledges will also be competing in Delta Gamma’s fundraiser which is AnchorSplash. There will competitive swimming events and there will also be portion to where the pledges will be doing a synchronized swimming portion. This will all be taking place on October 24.

Swishes For Wishes Sigma Chi also competed in Chi Omega’s Swishes for Wishes on October 14. All of the proceeds made were donated to the Make a Wish foundation. The team played very well, but came up short in a very tight game against PIKE.

Fundraising The Pledges of Sigma have begun fundraising, and the 1st thing that we began with was a car wash. The car wash was a good start and now we are currently selling tickets to the Aeros game for Sunday November 25, 2012 at 5:05, at the Toyota Center against the Abbotsford Heat. If anyone is interested in tickets please contact Justin Moss at 832-331-1223. On November 11, the pledges will also be selling Bar-B-Que at the Alumni softball game.

Material When pledging began, many of us did not really know what to expect. After the 1st week, we realized as a class that we must know the material and that is what the Sigma Chi fraternity is based around. So far we have learned The Jordan Standard, The Sigma Chi Creed, The Sigma Chi Grace, and “A Sig, I am.” This week we are to learn to The Spirit of

Sigma Chi and “The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.” We are not only just memorizing the material; we are also learning the importance of the material so that we can input it in our everyday life. We understand that every Sigma Chi brother has every characteristic listed in The Jordan Standard, from “a student of fairability...” to “Having High Sense of Honor and A Deep Sense of Personal Responsibility.”
