Helios Nick Alekhine, Nathan Hulsey, Charles Perrone, Adrian Bjune Opportunity • Helios is a interactive visual and auditory art experience that aims to help users achieve a meditative state. The visuals are generated with Processing and are controlled by an Xbox Kinect through the users body movements. The sounds, inspired by wind chimes, are dynamically generated and respond to the complexity of the particles floating around the screen. The sounds become more subdued and steady when the user collects more particles through the gravitational pull around their hands and chest. As users engage in the space, both the visuals and soundscape dynamically adapt to their presence in order to guide their emotional state to be relaxed and calm.
Approach
• Microsoft Kinect (motion capture) • Processing (visuals) • Max MSP (audio)
• We started this project with the aim to explore the capabilities of motion capture technology and generative design. We were also interested in creating an experience that was unique to each new user.
Impact The unique feature about our innovation/research is: the use of technology and art to deliver a meditative experience. This addesses the problem of: Stress and anxiety
