[Ryan] Before we know it, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter will be upon us. For many believers, the period leading up to Easter is a time of prayer, repentance, and self-denial. But no matter what we do (or don’t do) leading up to Easter, it is a good time to think about how God loved us enough to send his son to die for our sins so that through his resurrection, we might have forgiveness and eternal life. ST AFF:
1 Peter 1:3-5 (NEB), reads: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us new birth into a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! The inheritance to which we are born is one that nothing can destroy or spoil or wither. It is kept for you in heaven, and you, because you put your faith in God, are under the protection of his power until salvation comes—the salvation which is even now in readiness and will be revealed at the end of time. As we think about these verses, here are a few questions to help us start thinking about Easter. 1. Have you experienced a new birth in your life? How do you live your life as one who has a living hope?

[email protected] It is customary at UPBC for us to provide an opportunity to give a special financial gift in celebration of our Lord's resurrection at Easter. The Board of Overseers has designated this special Easter offering to be used to support UPBC mission trips that are planned for this year. The funds will be allocated to the various trips by our Mission Board as they determine the needs. Gifts for the special Easter offering will be received through the end of March.

what is threat #2? I believe it is selfishness. Selfishness - everything from not wanting to share a bite from your plate, to not wanting to help with cleaning the toilet, to not caring about what your schedule is doing to your family, to outright cheating on your spouse. All of those things, and more, come from a selfish heart and spirit. If God is truly first, then you understand that a marriage is a union of a male and female giving themselves sacrificially to each other. Just as God gave His son to us, we are giving ourselves to our spouse. We move away from “it’s all about me” to it’s really all about you. We move away from, “what’s the best thing for me” to what would you like for me to do for you? That’s a difficult thing for many people, but if you don’t grasp threat #2 then your marriage will be in danger. Do you agree? What is your #2 threat to marriage? Do you find yourself being selfish at times? On a scale of 1-10, where do you rank yourself? Are there times when you are less selfish than others? When? Why? Do you wait and see if your spouse is selfless before you act? If you say yes, then maybe it’s time for a self-assessment. Maybe you need to look at yourself and see if you are acting selfless or selfish towards your spouse and family.
UPBC Quilters
by Carol Hastings
Nobody seems to know just when it all began, but you need to know that it exists and has existed for many years. I'm talking about the ministry of a group of ladies that meet once a week and sew, making big and little quilts, lap robes, pillow case dresses for Samaritan's Purse Christmas boxes and items for our own Wee Care. Roma Colton, Margaret Brown, Ruth Duncan, Margaret Viggers, Gladys Van Sickle, Pearl McGuire, Agnus Knode and Mildred West were among the first quilters. They had one sewing machine so most of the sewing was done by hand and the cutting was all done with scissors—no rotary cutters! Already many of the church ladies were working in the day time so there was a group that met at night to sew—Sherrie Leonard, Kym Curl, Mary Conn, Darlene Shrader, Olive Stehlik, Pam Bartling, and others. One of the biggest special projects was in the fall of 2006 when, with the help of Joanne Giles and Chris Wood, we made seven quilts for past and present pastors of our church. The blocks were made from shirts and dresses donated by church members. What a labor of love! There is so much more to tell about this wonderful ministry of our church that is providing outreach and blessing. Watch for more.
