Occasional Meals...the rundown Institutional Staff Member: A student-athlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional meal in the locale of the institution on infrequent and special occasions from an institutional staff member. The institutional staff member may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend such meals. Representative of Athletics Interests: A studentathlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional family home meal from a representative of athletics interests provided the meal is in the individual's home (as opposed to a restaurant) and may be catered. The representative of athletics interests or an institutional staff member may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend such meals. **Remember: It is permissible to have an occasional home meal with a recruit as long as the meal is NOT hosted by a representative of athletics interest.** **NOTE: If you are planning on doing an occasional meal in the future, please let me know, and I will send you a copy of the approval form that is to be approved by the Compliance Office, and Director of Athletics.

UVa-Wise Extra Benefits Guide Why was it developed? The guide was developed to provide an added and comprehensive resource to the UVa-Wise campus and Athletics Community in the area of Extra Benefits. What is it? A comprehensive, brand new resource that the Compliance Office has developed in order to help clarify the most common Extra Benefit questions for UVa-Wise Administrative Staff, Athletics’ Staff, Coaches, and UVa-Wise Boosters. What kind of information is included? This guide contains information about numerous topics including: expenses that UVa-Wise is permitted to and not permitted to pay for S.A.’s., and rules and regulations for UVa-Wise Athletic Boosters to adhere to. Where can I find the Extra Benefits Guide? The guide will be found on the new UVa-Wise Athletics Website underneath the heading: “Compliance”; then under the sub-heading “Boosters”, as soon as the website is complete. Who do I contact if I have questions about the guide? Tom Nyman is the contact person regarding the Extra Benefits Guide. Any clarification needed regarding this new resource can be made by Tom. As with all Compliance issues, it is best to ASK FIRST!

INTERP. CENTRAL Permissible Activities and Expenses Prior to the First Permissible Date of Practice The Division II Legislation Committee confirmed that in all Division II sports, it is permissible to designate a single date for issuing equipment and for taking squad pictures on the day prior to the beginning of preseason practice. It is permissible for an institution to begin providing preseason practice expenses to student-athletes on the evening prior to the designated equipment and squad picture day (i.e., lodging and an evening meal). The staff further confirmed that an institution may conduct other non-athletically related meetings (e.g., to sign compliance forms, to administer medical examinations) prior to the first permissible date of preseason practice.
