VBS 2017 Q & A Q: What are the ages for FBCFM’s VBS? A: VBS is open to all kids who have completed Kindergarten through 5
th
Grades.
Q: What about preschool 3s & 4s? They have been able to attend in previous years. A: The squads have grown tremendously over the last few years and, for safety and age-appropriate reasons, we have intentionally reduced the size of those squads. 3s & 4s of VBS Volunteers will make up those smaller squads and will not gather in the Worship Center for drop-off/Opening Celebration or pickup/dismissal.
Q: What about snacks for the children? Is that changing this year? A: Due to the growing number and complexity of food allergies and our commitment to keeping children as safe as possible, snacks will not be provided to K-5th children during VBS. Children will be given a bottle of water each night during their Recreation rotation. Please plan to give your child a heavy snack or dinner before coming to VBS or have a snack ready when you pick them up. Our youngest VBS children (infantpre/K 4s) of First Baptist Church volunteers will receive a small snack to help them get through the extended evening.
Q: How do I register my child(ren)? A: Registration is simple, free and active online at http://www.fbcfm.com/vbs. Q: Can I volunteer at this year’s event? A: We do need lots of volunteers!! If you are part of FBC’s church family as a member/Sunday morning regular attender, we need you to help staff this huge effort as we minister to families and children. Sign up to volunteer on the web site or at the table in the lobby or contact Thornley directly at
[email protected].
Q: I am an FBCer, will be volunteering and my preschooler will be attending VBS, what are some things I should know?
A: First, we are thrilled with all of that!! The main thing to know is that you will drop-off and pick-up your littlest ones (infant-2s) on the First World Hall and drop-off and pick up your little ones who are 3 and 4 (FBC’s Penguins & Red Birds) in the Uptown Large Group Room. We have great squad rotations planned for the 3s & 4s and fun classroom activity and care for infant – 2s. Please be sure all of your youngest children are registered so we can be adequately prepared for them.
Q: So, if Sunday night is a regular night of VBS for the kids, is there anything special I should know? A: Come directly to the Worship Center lobby … if you have pre-registered online, your process will be extra quick. Find the area according to last name, pick up your child(ren)’s lanyards and take them into the Worship Center to check in directly with the Squad Leaders.
Q: My son/daughter will be volunteering at VBS. Will they receive any training before VBS starts? A: Yes! Our youth volunteers are an important part of our volunteer effort and we are thankful for their commitment to serving. We will be providing training on expectations and general responsibilities during 180 one Sunday in May and youth volunteers will meet with their team leads during the VBS Breakfast on June 3 to learn more about their specific role and responsibilities so it’s important that they attend the Breakfast if possible.
Q: Is there a charge for VBS? A: No, FBCFM’s VBS is completely free! The church makes an annual commitment in the budget to fully cover the expense of this event.
Q: Do kids bring an offering? A: They can, but it is not required. Each year we give the collected money to a specific Mission Project/Offering. For 2017, we are thrilled to be partnering with Lisa Taylor who is a missionary serving in Lima, Peru. There will be brochures explaining Lisa’s ministry and also giving information on how the offering/donation will be used.
Q: Is there other info I should know? A: There are many other details available on the website … including squad colors, the VBS Donation List, volunteer sign-ups, and more. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please contact Natalie at 803.547.2051 and she will help resolve your question.
Q: What is the process to pick-up my child at the end of the evening? A: All parents, even VBS volunteers, must show a picture I.D. to pick-up their child(ren).
