To whom it may concern; I’m writing in application to the Art Director role you currently have open at the Venice office. I relocated from Seattle to Venice a few weeks ago and was thrilled to come across this opening as I’ve been an avid VICE reader/follower for years. A bit about me - in 2010 I joined the up-and-coming cloud computing group within Amazon, Amazon Web Services, as the first designer within the marketing org. Over the next four and half years, I established and evolved our brand guidelines, developed a creative look and feel called ‘whiteboard’, built a team of 7 awesome visual and UX designers, managed all design project workflows, onboarded independent designers and big agencies to support our projects, and still worked on design projects every week myself. I believe my broad design experience and hands-on approach would lend itself well to a fast-paced organization like VICE Media. I learned a ton about marketing and design working in this agile environment with ever-shifting priorities. Now, I’m looking for a role as an Art Director in a company that’s on the ground with my generation. VICE Media, which I once heard described as “the Time Warner of the streets”, appears to fit the bill to a tee.
