1 VISION STATEMENT BY ACHIMOTA SECONDARY SCHOOL Delivered by Djan Roy Aboagye Date: 26th November 2015 Venue: Mensvic Hotel, Accra ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mr. Chairman, The Director-General, NDPC, The Regional Minister, Honourable MPs, Teachers present, The press, Members of the High Table, Fellow students, Ladies and gentlemen; Accept my warmest greeting. I am from Achimota School and if I have been granted the rare privilege today of addressing this unique house with a vision statement on “The Future we want as Ghanaians”. VISION: We all see them in our dreams and thoughts. However, if a mad man declares his vision, we must be prepared to run. If a politician tells you he has a vision, it is very likely he sees it through spectacles tinted with the quest and thirst for power. If it comes from a prophet, you would have to pay to hear it. On the other hand, if a young person tells you that he or she has a vision, you should be eager to listen to him or her. We have a vision where the future for our children is not life on the street begging but a life of education enriched with African values and hands-on practical skills, an education where we won’t have half-baked scholars looking for jobs when income-generating activities are staring them in the face. We want an economy dotted with numerous factories and abundant jobs for our graduates, an economy where exports outweigh imports to create wealth for the nation. Besides this, we see a future where the honesty and vigilance of citizens and law enforcement agencies will eradicate corruption from all corners of our government and REGIONAL CONSULTATION ON THE LONG-TERM NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN Vision Statement by Achimota School ©NDPC, 2015

2 public sector. We desire a tomorrow where corruption will be buried with no hope of resurfacing. We earnestly hope for a cleaner environment where our waste will be recycled. Regarding energy, we should turn to renewable sources to light our bulbs and brighten our homes without power cuts. We desire a future where the authorities make it their duty to ensure that our roads take us to our desired destinations, not to our graves. We want a country where our health insurance will not turn into death insurance. We want a future with crystal-clear water bodies and the freshest air to breathe, devoid of pungent smells from industries and rickety cars. We want a citizenry which will grow and work with what we have to raise our level of development without any influence from foreigners. Mr. Chairman, our vision for this country was not induced by bedtime dreams, but solely based on the occurrences we encounter as citizens. Thus, we aspire for this country not just a simple vision, but a complete metamorphosis in all aspects. This vision must live. Thank you.
