1 VISION STATEMENT BY DZORWULU SPECIAL SCHOOL Delivered by Gladys Akwele Mensah and Gloria Akuoko Mensah Date: 26th November 2015 Venue: Mensvic Hotel, Accra ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------All protocols observed; Education is a social enterprise and therefore paramount to the development of this country. Below are some pertinent issues which need attention ENROLMENT DRIVE Being mindful of government educational policies, as many Special Needs children as possible of school going age should be enrolled and retained in the various schools and be given high-quality pre-tertiary education through relevant teaching and learning experiences. ASSESSMENT Well-structured data should be designed for multidisciplinary teams to critically screen all children for early identification of special needs and timely intervention. VOCATIONAL SKILLS Vocational training should be intensified for Special Needs children to acquire developmental skills for useful, confident, comfortable, independent living through an innovative range of practical training and social development methods. EASY ACCESSIBILITY All Special Needs students should have easy access to all public facilities without any architectural barriers. CAPACITY BUILDING Teachers are recognised as critical partners in offering effective developmental support to children with Special Needs. Teachers should therefore be given regular and relevant professional training that equips them with the requisite skills for the holistic development of Special Needs children.
