1 VISION STATEMENT BY GHANA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Delivered by Abduli Kadidza Date: 17th September, 2015 Venue: Modern City Hotel, Tamale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Professor Chair, Sagnari-Naa, All protocols duly observed; I am Abduli Kadidza. As a school, we wish to first and foremost express our profound gratitude to the organisers for making GHANASCO a part of this process for soliciting views, ideas, and contributions to mapping the road to the future we all want as a nation. Distinguished Chair, In harnessing the development agenda, it is clear that key areas include the economy, education, health, security, good governance, agriculture, telecommunication and transportation. We have a common vision. We have a dream that one day our nation would stand tall among other nation of the African continent as the best and among the many developed countries in the world. We want a united nation in which we all believe that we are one. And this oneness transcends regional, ethnic, political, religious differences, on a common road to success. We want a future where we put our interest aside and put the nation’s first. This will only happen when we develop not just infrastructure but also our deep sense of commonality. We need to rethink our attitudes, rediscover ourselves as a nation and reshape especially our education sector with proper educational policies which should be determined by all. We want a future where our educational system is transformed to reflect the needs of our time from the theoretical, to the vocational and technical system to train and equip graduates for the job market where we can be absorbed easily by the public or private sector. We want a nation that addresses the gross disparity between the rich and the poor by ensuring we base our economy on self-reliance. Our country is endowed with many natural resources that can be exploited to cater for the needs of its citizens. We want a future where all Ghanaians have decent jobs, with good pay commensurate with the cost REGIONAL CONSULTATION ON THE LONG-TERM NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN Vision Statement by Ghana Senior High School ©NDPC, 17th September 2015
2 of living. We want good health and safety regulations at work and a good pension that ensures dignity when we retire. We live in an era where eradicating poverty has become an indispensable requirement for sustainable national development. So we want a future where we are all committed to freeing humanity from poverty and hunger as a matter of urgency and ensuring justice at all levels. We want a future where sustainable development is promoted through inclusive and equitable economic growth, creating greater opportunities for all, reducing inequalities, raising basic standards of living, fostering equitable social development, inclusion and promoting integrated sustainable development and ecosystem conservation. We want a future of political, religious and ethnic tolerance and cooperation to address the persistent challenges related to national development and in particular, development in the less endowed areas. In this regard, we call for continuous stability of the cedi against the dollar and other foreign currencies. We need sustained growth in the agricultural sector, proper sanitation and environmental protection. We need equal opportunity in all the recruitment processes in the public sector devoid of politics and regional affiliation. We need to ensure the protection, survival and development of children and the youth to reach our full potential through quality education and quality health care. We must express deep concern about the continuing high level of unemployment and underemployment, particularly among young people. We call for national strategies to proactively address the high rate of youth and employment at all levels, especially in the rural areas. Mr. Chair, we want a future where great importance is placed on the participation of indigenous people in mapping out policies for development at the grassroots. Young people should have a greater say in decision-making processes. There is a need for intergenerational dialogue and solidarity. We want a future in which air, water and land pollution is minimised. It is undoubtedly true that the future we want as a nation depends on having a resilient population with stronger institutions full of men and women with strong will and patriotism and selflessness. This cannot be achieved without investment in human resources, especially young people. Not only do we form the majority of the population of the country and deserve our fair share as a matter of equity but we are also at a stage of our life cycle that determines our future in political, social and economic terms.

3 Above all, we want a peaceful, violence-free, democratic nation, with all the institutions and all of us working for the good of all. As the saying goes, me mann nti, enye menti, oman yi beyeyie aa efiri me ni wo. For the sake of my nation, not for my sake; if the country is to develop, it depends on you and me. Let us work for mother Ghana. Our leaders have done their part. Ghana belong to us. God bless our nation Ghana. God bless our leaders, and God bless us all. Thank you.
