Participation & Competition Summer swim league is all about family participation and fun competition! Swimmers are expected to participate in daily practice Monday through Friday and to compete in the neighborhood dual-meets. Please notifiy coaches of any conflicts.
Registration We will host two on-site registrations at the Vista Del Norte pool located on Vista Real. Please bring your checkbook and registration form found on the website. Registration dates are:
SUNDAY, April 9th, 2pm –5pm – D&J Sports will be on site for swimsuit sales WEDNESDAY, April 19th, 6pm – 7:30pm The 2017 registration fees are the same, so download the newest form from the website and complete before arriving to save time at registration. Registration forms will be accepted through the first week of practice.
Team Swimsuits & T-shirts Team swimsuits and t-shirts are not required, but encouraged, as they promote team unity and team spirit! They will be available for purchase at registration. D&J Sports will be at the Sunday April 9th registration offering team swimsuits and other accessories. Our team swimsuit will be TYR Alliance Splice and can be purchased at registration or at D&J Sports store located at 6401 Blanco Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78216. Feel free to contact them at (210) 366-9388. You will need to pay for items from D&J Sports separately from the swim team.
Barracudas Website www.vdnbarracudas.swim-team.us All team news will be distributed through the team website, email list, and team practice board. Please utilize the website to download all forms and verify the team practice and swim meet schedule.
Practice Schedule After school practices begin Monday, May 1st, and will be Monday through Friday. Please check the website, Facebook page, and practice board for practice time changes depending on group sizes. The tentative practice schedule can be seen below. 4:30 to 5:00

Practice Expectations •
Swimmers should show up to practice on time and ready to swim every day.
•
Communication through email and text messaging will be provided if practice is cancelled due to weather.
•
Please check the white board and the Barracuda Box daily to make sure you are aware of any important information.
•
The Vista Del Norte HOA graciously allows the swim team use of the pool and grounds. It is our responsibility to keep the area clean and to abide by the pool rules. This includes supervision of children that are not participating in practice.
•
Coaches are on site to coach the swimmers during their specific practice times. The coaches cannot supervise children before or after their practice times, nor can they supervise children that are not in the pool or immediate area.
•
We encourage parents to stay during practice, but please respect the coaches during practice times and communicate during breaks.
•
If parents cannot stay during practice, please arrange for your swimmers to be picked up or supervised when practice ends.
•
Glass containers are not allowed in the pool area.
•
Pets are not allowed in the pool area.
•
The tennis courts are strictly for tennis use. Swimmers may play tennis if courts are available, however, they may not use the courts as a playground and should never disrupt tennis players.
Swim Meets Saturday, May 27th - 7:30 am (away meet) @ Harmony Hills Monday, June 5th -5:30 pm (home meet) vs. Vineyard Monday, June 12th - 5:30 pm (away meet) @ Oak Meadow Monday, June 19th - 5:30 am (home meet) vs. Deerfield Meet and pool information will be published to the VDN website and sent through email. Heat sheets will be provided once they’re available. Dual meets can last up to 4 hours and coaches should be notified if you are planning on leaving before the conclusion of the meet.
Meet Expectations •
Make sure your swimmer is well rested and well hydrated prior to the swim meets.
•
Swimmers should arrive ready to swim at the communicated time from the coaches. VDN will have a check-in table at all meets to verify attendance.
•
Swimmers should stay in the designated team area with their age group for the entire meet.
•
Swimmers should notify the coaches if needing to leave before the meet concludes, even if they are not scheduled for more events. This is important when the coaches are trying to cover other absences and are counting on a swimmer to substitute.
•
Please keep the team area clean and throw away trash.
•

Championship Meet Saturday, June 24th – 8:30 am The Championship meet will be at the Harmony Hills Cabana Club. The meet is designed for the swimmers with the most competitive times as determined during the dual meets. The cost to compete in championships will be distributed once the league sets the final amount. The coaches will assume your swimmer is available to swim at the Championship meet unless you turn in a missed meet form by Tuesday, June 13th. You will be held responsible to the swim team for fees paid to the league on behalf of your swimmer(s). If selected and you cannot make the meet, please let the coaches know as soon as possible to allow another swimmer the opportunity to swim.
Team & Individual Photos June 5th – 8:00 am individual Photos, 10:00 am team photo Michelle Funk Photography (www.michellefunkphotos.photoreflect.com) will be taking team and individual pictures again this year. Photos will be taken at the VDN swimming pool. Check the VDN website and Barracuda Box for more information as the date gets closer.
Missed Meet Forms Please use the Missed Meet Form to let the coaches know you will miss a swim meet. You may find the form at vdnbarracudas.swim-team.us.
Message Board The team message board will be updated daily and will be available at the pool during practice time. Please check the message board, Facebook page, and team website for practice updates and team events.
Barracuda Box We will continue using the Barracuda Box to get personal items or information to our Barracuda families. Each swimmer will have a file in the box. Parents, please check the file for ribbons, new information, or important news.
Clinics and Swim Lessons Coaches will be providing group and individual clinics and lessons. Please contact the coaches for availability and pricing.
Social Events Swimmers are invited to come to the VDN Barracuda social events that will happen throughout the season. Details, including dates and times, will be communicated as they become available.
Fundraising It is important to know that registration fees cover only a portion of the team's expenses throughout the season. Fundraising is important in ensuring that we are always able to hire great coaches and continue to provide the fun experiences. Our concession stand at the home meets is one of our team's best fundraisers. We sell fresh grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and snacks. Baked goods are always welcome as donations. Please contact Andrew Belton if you are interested in volunteering or donating to the team concessions.
End of Season Awards Party Monday, June 26th – 3-5pm open swim, 5-6pm food, awards start at 6:00pm We’ll have food, trophies, and our awards ceremony at the VDN pool. This is a great opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of all our swimmers! Food and drinks are provided, so please bring a dessert or side dish to share. The party is for ALL swim team members and their families. If you are not able to attend, the swim team committee will hold your trophies and purchased photos, and you may make arrangements to pick them up before the end of summer. See you at the party!
