Women’s Opening Serve Gettysburg squares off with regionally-ranked Washington today.
The Series Washington has won all 24 meetings against Gettysburg. The Shoremen have won at least seven of the singles/doubles contests in each of the last five contests against the Bullets.
The Series Washington holds a 20-9 advantage in the all-time series with Gettysburg. The Shorewomen have won 14 of 15 meetings since 2002. The Bullets’ last win was a 7-2 decision in 2014.
Last Meeting Washington picked up a 7-2 win over Gettysburg last spring. The Shoremen won two of three doubles matches to open. Dave Musser ’16 and Christian Deschapelles ’18 came through in a tiebreaker for a 9-8 (7-5) victory at first doubles. Kevin DeRosa ’17 won a pair of tiebreakers to claim the team’s lone singles victory 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1) at No. 4.
Last Meeting Washington overpowered Gettysburg for an 8-1 decision last season. The Bullets’ lone win came at third doubles where Hailey Hoffman ’19 and Jeannie Van Buren ’19 picked up an 8-4 victory. Washington surrendered only six points in straight-set victories at all six singles competitions.
Last Time Out Gettysburg earned a 7-2 victory over Muhlenberg last Saturday. The Bullets swept doubles play as sophomore Nick D’Amore and junior Christian Deschapelles completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 2. D’Amore cruised to a straight-set win (6-1, 6-2) at third singles, while Deschapelles bounced back from an opening-set loss to win 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 11-9 at the top flight. Sophomore Andrew Corwin also won in a tiebreaker 2-6, 6-2,10-7 at No. 5. Scouting Washington... Washington is ranked 20th in the Atlantic South Region. The Shoremen are coming off back-to-back victories over Dickinson (8-1) and Ursinus (6-3). Against Ursinus, Washington opened with wins at second and third doubles. Chris Salisbury bounced back from an opening-set loss to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Salisbury is 10-3 at the top flight, while Jake Sandler is 13-3 at the second position.

Last Time Out Gettysburg beat Bryn Mawr 8-1 on Thursday. Sophomore Maria Martinovic and senior Laura Gradiska teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles. Martinovic won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 singles and Gradiska won handily 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Freshmen Samantha Boardman and Emily Simonds were also double-winners, first combining for an 8-4 win at second doubles before earning wins at third (6-1, 6-3) and fourth (6-0, 6-1) singles, respectively.
