Wake Forest-Rolesville High School Technology Plan Approved May 21, 2012
I. Mission: Our technology mission is to prepare students for graduation and transition into life beyond high school integrating Web 2.0 tools and 21st Century Skills. The MTAC committee will support the School Improvement Plan through technology programming and professional development for teachers which will support the integration of technology into classroom instruction.
II. School Improvement Area of Focus: Technology will be used in the following areas of the educational process: A. Success Series / USA test Prep and other supportive software for classroom instruction. B. Electronic research and support for all core classes. C. Visual and auditory complements to the curriculum. D. Integration of 21st Century skills within the core curriculum. E. Blackboard will be a vital tool used in the delivery of course content and communications with parents and students. III. How Can Technology Help Us Reach Our Goals? A. Blackboard integration will support teachers with course content delivery to students. The use of Blackboard through course content delivery will prepare students for college level classes as they transition beyond high school. B. As teachers integrate Web 2.0 tools into their teaching methodologies, students are exposed to these tools and will learn how to use them, thereby creating and improving their 21st Century skills. C. Providing communication to faculty regarding web-based resources will support their work with students. IV. Needs: A. General Classroom Configuration- Each classroom should contain the following capabilities: 1. Number of computers that correlate to needs of curriculum and teacher. 2. Screen projection capabilities with an LCD projector.
3. Access to a laser printer. 4. Connection to WFR LAN and WCPSS WAN. 5. Bb page or webpage per teacher. 6. Tech Team to research finding ways to fund software licenses to support class instruction. examples: Qiuzlet.com/Quia.com). 7. SMART Boards for all EOC classrooms with on-going supportive training for teachers. 8. Laptop carts for flexibility and increase of access. B.
Administration 1. Ensure administrators have at least one desktop and/or laptop for use and access to a laser printer. 2. Equip with up-to-date technology. 3. Provide input and direction for Media and Technology Advisory Committee.
C. Media Center 1. Provide at least 70 to 80 functional computers to facilitate at least 2 classes at a time. 2. Provide technology leadership for the school. 3. Collaborate with teachers and students and advise on Web 2.0 tools. 4. Blackboard Coordinators for the school. 5. Tech contacts for the school. 6. Maintain web page and blog for Web 2.0 resources and pertinent articles. D. Faculty Resource Computers 1. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use and access to a laser printer. E. Guidance 1. Ensure counselors have at least one desktop or laptop for use and access to a laser printer.
F. Subject Areas (alphabetical ordered) 1. Career and Technical Education a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum. c. Introduce and implement the Elements system of test bank management. 2. Fine Arts a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum. c. Equipment purchases to assist with productions, etc. 3. English a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum, targeting English 9 in 2012 and English 10 thereafter due to EOC. c. SMART Boards for EOC teachers. 4. Foreign Language a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools, such as Audacity, into curriculum. 5. Mathematics a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum, targeting the EOC courses. c. SMART Boards for EOC teachers. 6. Physical Education a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum.
7. Science a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools into curriculum, targeting the EOC courses. c. SMART Boards for EOC teachers. 8. Social Studies a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools, such as Voice Thread or Glogster, into curriculum. 9. Special Programs a. Ensure teachers have at least one desktop or laptop for use. b. Integrate appropriate Web 2.0 tools and equipment into curriculum. V. Implementation of Technology Plan – Phases and Goals A. Phase 1~ 2012-13 1. Continue active MTAC committee. 2. Implement and support the school technology plan. 3. Support and use of integrated new technologies, such as Mobi, into at least 2 math classrooms and a clicker system. 4. Media staff to work with teachers to integrate more Web 2.0 tools. 5. Provide Blackboard and on-line resources for professional development. 6. Increase to 75% of the faculty using Blackboard for a course by the end of the 2013 school year. 7. Every teacher will use technologies besides an overhead. B. Phase 2~ 2013-14 1. Support the integration of more technologies into classes, such as a SMART Board, use 0f online resources, clicker system, more Mobis, and other technologies as deemed appropriate. 2. Provide Blackboard and on-line resources professional development to all new teachers. 3. At least 75% of teachers will be using Blackboard for a course. 4. Every teacher will either have a BlackBoard page or a web page.
5. Wimba for county PLTs, etc. C. Phase 3~ 2014-2015 1. 100% of teachers will be using Blackboard for a course. 2. Provide Blackboard and on-line resources professional development to all new teachers. VI. Responsibilities of the Media Staff A. Media Center Management 1. Collaborate with teachers. 2. Educate the staff and students about new technologies and tools. 3. Provide appropriate research resources for staff and students. 4. Acknowledge media events, such as Teen Read Week, and encourage literacy among student body. B. Technology Management 1. Provide staff development as needed. 2. Notify staff and students of latest technology tools and Web 2.0 information. 3. School Blackboard coordinators. 4. Technology contacts for school. VII. Technology Plan - Evaluation Procedures General - The MTAC committee will develop an evaluation of the technology plan that isongoing and open to feedback. This process should include evaluation of the appropriateness and efficiency of systems, programs, and changes implemented through the technology plan. Evaluation Tools – Evaluative information can be obtained in the form of verbal feedback, surveys, observation, and empirical data. Areas that require evaluation and possible evaluative methods include, but are not limited to: Academic Success. Student improvement in subject areas. Student special needs are addressed. Growth in Use of Instructional Technology. Measured increase in use by teachers.
Students demonstrate mastery of new skills. Improvement of Facilities. Access to hardware. Access to software. Building improvements. Changing Attitudes. Increased technology use. Increased enrollment in technology programs. Presence of professional growth plans. Competency of Staff. Participation in training programs. Demonstrated mastery of new skills. Increased Web 2.0 use.
C. Evaluation Goals: Blackboard coordinators to report to MTAC each February on the number of teachers using Blackboard. MTAC to survey PLT team leaders per semester on the number of common assessments used and by what technology. This data to be provided to school administration. MTAC will self conduct a self evaluation each year on the progress of the technology plan as to the level of success of each phase and provide a written report to the school’s principal.
