Wm. Lee Kinney shared with the Session an excerpt from Frederic Buechner’s book “Wishful Thinking”. We (elected Session members) are all ordained “ministers” and should be empowered to do what our paid ministers do in his absence. We are all called to be a willing source and example of Christian Love. We are all called to do as original disciples did - to follow. Rev. Wm. Lee Kinney shared a brief history of our Book of Order for our new Session members and then shared a power point which asks the Session “Where are we and where do we go from here?” The power point focused on: (1) the challenges facing Christianity in America today (2) the Nuturing and Care of our members (3) Children, Youth and Young Adults and the Worship Wars and (4) The FPC Mission emphasis going forward in 2013. SESSION COMMISSION REPORTS: STEWARDSHIP: Tommy Swanner reported to the Session regarding a recap of the 2012 fiscal year. We never quite caught up with the projected budget and our income finished about 3% short as budgeted but remained cash positive because our expenses were also less than expected (due in part to Darryl’s departure) The 2013 budget has been trimmed but Tommy Swanner feels that we may be able to increase budgeted expenditures to 2012 levels as we have seen a 13.3 increase in our investments and took no distributions. Jeff Rumley asked if

the current budget included any expenditures which will be necessary to service the upcoming Frames of Faith debt. The current budget does not include this. FRAMES OF FAITH: Jeff Rumley informed the Session that the building contract was awarded to A.R. Chesson of Williamston. There is a meeting scheduled for Saturday January 19, 2013 with a representative of A.R. Chesson to work on phasing and construction timelines in an effort to allow FPC to continue the business of Church with as little interruption as possible. John Jernigan has agreed to assist the Planning Commission by committing to be an onsite presence during the construction project and Jerry Bienes will lend his expertise on the weekends when he is home and available. BUILDING AND GROUNDS: Steve Brodie reported to the Session the unfortunate news that the roof over the fellowship hall is in disrepair and leaking . We were aware of old leaks along the perimeter of the Fellowship Hall roof but the leaks are now in the main roof as well. Service Roffing of Greenville has inspected the roof and it is immediate need of replacement. Steve Brodie and the Building and Grounds commission pleads with the Session to take care of this problem now and to not patch it or put it off. To do so will jeopardize the new floor surfaces we are planning to install in the Fellowship Hall as part of the Frames of Faith project. The cost of these repairs would be significantly less if we do it now since the roofing company will already be on site replacing the roof of the educational building. Steve Brodie also reported that there are numerous floor joists in the sanctuary that are rotten. It was pointed out to the Session that the cost of the roof repair over the Fellowship Hall was originally included in the Frames of Faith project but was later removed in an effort to keep the project within budget. NEW BUSINESS: None Announcements: * Next Stated Session Meeting, February 19, 2013 Adjournment and Closing Prayer: The moderator asked for a motion to adjourn. Jeff Rumley so moved and Stewart Rumley seconded. The meeting was adjourned and closed in prayer by Rev. Wm. Lee Kinney.
