WATER WONDERS—WEEKEND TRIP

Day One 7:30 a.m.

Take a half-day raft trip with Colorado River Discovery tours

Time to grab your swimsuit for an exciting journey downstream. It starts with an exciting two-mile ride down the Glen Canyon Dam access tunnel where you’ll board a motorized pontoon raft. With the 700foot tall dam towering next to you, your guide will take you down one of the most majestic stretches of the enchanting Colorado River, filling you in along the way about some of nature’s other wonders like the incredible sandstone cliffs, crystal blue-green waters, and amazing wildlife. With a stop to see ancient petroglyphs by Ancestral Puebloan people, you’ll quickly understand how amazing this river truly is. http://raftthecanyon.com/

Return to Page for lunch at Bonkers Restaurant

Fresh foods and natural meats. It’s just the way things are at Bonkers Restaurant. Not only do they pride themselves on the best-tasting food—of which we think you’ll love—they know exactly what’s in everything they make. That’s because they make it from scratch and get their food from suppliers that are trusted and have consistently high food standards. Be sure to try the veal picatta or marsala with sautéed tomatoes, capers, and garlic. You’ll go bonkers over it. http://www.bonkerspageaz.com/

Rent a houseboat on Lake Powell for the night

As one of the ultimate aquatic playgrounds for families, Lake Powell has more miles of shoreline than all of the west coast, and 96 major canyons to explore. Just pick your spot and set up camp on a sandy beach where you can barbeque, tell fireside stories, and roast marshmallows under the starlit night skies. http://www.lakepowell.com/houseboating.aspx

TRAVEL ITINERARY Day Two 9:00 a.m.

Fly/Spin fishing in Marble Canyon at Lees Ferry

The Colorado River features an extraordinary landscape with meandering canyons, delicate arches, and mammoth monoliths. And, it only gets more incredible around Lees Ferry where you can fish for some of the biggest rainbow trout you’ve ever seen—about 20,000 worth per mile. For another definite sight to see, be sure not to miss the 1,000-foot tall sandstone cliffs towering above you. As big as the Colorado River gets, its backwaters, eddies, and channels just beg for its 14 to 22-inch trout to be plucked from it. Big or small, every fish is a prize when caught from these waters. http://www.leesferryflyfishing.com

1:00 p.m.

Lunch at Cliff Dwellers Restaurant in Marble Canyon

As the restaurant of choice among locals, Cliff Dwellers has become a renowned destination for dining. Named one of the Best Restaurants of 2013 by Arizona Highways magazine, this restaurant offers greattasting sandwiches, juicy burgers, fine steaks, lip-smackin’ barbeque, and a covered patio to enjoy it all while appreciating a full view of the colorful sandstone cliffs. Try the boneless filet of trout; who knows, it might just be the one that got away from you. http://leesferry.com/restaurant/

2:00 p.m.

Return to Lake Powell for water play

It’s a summer day at Lake Powell, which means an adrenalin-filled day of playing on the water. With water temperatures as high as 80 degrees in the summer, you can explore the immediate waters around you with a swim, or explore the lake by renting a Jet Ski or boat. Taking an adventure by following a winding canyon waterway as far back as it goes will make you feel like you’re on a whole different planet. http://www.lakepowell.com/play/what-to-do--see.aspx
