MENTORS Think back to all the people in your life who guided you in making educational and employment decisions that led you into your manufacturing career. Is it your turn to positively impact the life of a student or colleague? Sign up to be a mentor in our high school or professional program, or both. SME will provide you with guidance and training.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT MENTORS MUST:
PROFESSIONAL MEMBER MENTORS:
• Be SME members in good standing.
• Must be SME members in good standing.
• Complete and clear a background check.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
•V olunteer for a one-hour virtual session per month for a six-month time period.
•M eet with mentee for one hour per month for a six-month period. •P articipate for one or two sessions: September-February and/or March-August.
WHY BE A MENTOR? • Learn new perspectives • Share your knowledge and expertise • Pay it forward • Gain insight into your strengths and weaknesses • Enhance your leadership and communication skills
MENTEES HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS ENCOURAGE THEIR STUDENTS TO APPLY AS MENTEES IN ORDER TO:

•E nhance retention of students in technical and STEM programs.
• Develop education and/or new career pathways.
• Help students connect to education and career pathways.
• Learn specific skills and knowledge.
• Increase and diversify your network contacts from other industries; find your next boss.
•F orm connections to industry members who can serve as additional resources in the classroom.
•G ain first-hand experience with an industry professional to advance your education/career.
• Help prepare students for postsecondary education.
•G et exposure to diverse perspectives, and a real-world view of industry and experiences. • Enhance communication skills.
