Weddington High School Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Program The WHS Athletic Booster Club awards 2 scholarships to Senior Varsity Athletes, one male and one female, who have contributed in a positive manner to the WHS Athletics and the school. These scholarships are one time grants, designated to assist student athletes pursuing further education. The scholarships are intended to recognize a range of outstanding graduating athletes/students of Weddington High School. To be considered for a scholarship, student athletes must meet the minimum requirements: Athletic Participation Applicant must be a 12th grade student in good standing at Weddington High School who has participated on at least one varsity athletic team during the student’s last two years (current year included) of attending WHS. Booster Club Membership The student’s parent/guardian must be a current member of the Weddinton High School Athletic Booster Club. Academic Achievement The student athlete must have a minimum cumulative un-weighted high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as of the end of the third grading period of the applicant’s senior year. This will be confirmed for all applicants by the WHS guidance department prior to the committee reviewing applications. Post-Secondary Education The applicant must be accepted by a post-secondary institution. Post-secondary institutions include, but are not limited to, colleges, universities, and technical and vocational schools. Anyone receiving a full scholarship to any college or university will not be eligible to receive a scholarship from WHS Booster club. Application Students must complete and submit the application and sports participation chart. Student must also ensure coach and teacher recommendations are submitted by May 19, 2017. Application Essay Essay must be no less than 200 words (typed). The joint topics of the essay are to be: The impact playing a WHS team sport(s) has had on your personal and academic development and if you plan to continue to play in college (team or personally) and why/ why not. Selection Criteria Scholarships are given on the basis of merit, essay content and recommendation letters. Selection Committee The selection committee will be comprised of booster club members to assist as necessary. No identifying information on applicants will be given to the selection committee. Parents of the applicant(s) may not serve on the selection committee. Submission The completed application packet must be submitted in a sealed envelope marked WHS Booster Club Scholarship, delivered to the Athletic Director in the WHS office by the end of the school day May 19, 2017.. Late submissions will not be accepted.

I also understand that all scholarship money will be disbursed to the institution’s registrar after enrollment in a post-secondary institution.
