We are not only a Daycare at Kids Corner Childcare, but a Preschool as well. Kathy Watkins, our Executive Director, has many years of experience as a K-3 teacher in BC and the NWT. Our Preschool program is specifically designed to facilitate age-appropriate learning in your child. Your child is actively involved in learning through play, and our staff members make special effort to facilitate in other areas of development, be it learning to lay down for a nap in the afternoon, learning to line up with their group to go to the bathroom, or learning to speak with an “inside voice.” The learning process is seamless as the children have lots of fun and are unaware that they have been steadily growing and learning. The program employs both physical and conceptual learning at the child’s level of cognition, and we keep our learning objectives in mind when planning activities. You can have a look at these learning objectives on the back of this sheet. Early Childhood development is a process, part of the continuum of growth which begins at birth. By paying close attention to the stages of physical and cognitive learning that are taking place in a child, we can provide the right environment at the right time, with the right amount of encouragement to take advantage of those “learning moments.” We are committed to preparing your children in every way for Kindergarten and for the rest of their lives. Not all older Preschoolers sleep at Naptime, nor do we want them to when it makes it difficult for them to settle for bedtime at home. For this reason, after they have rested on their cot with a book for a little while, we get the older child up for 1-on-1 time with a teacher. They work on puzzles, read books, play a table game, or do a craft. Some older children do still need a nap, so we try to pay attention to each one’s differing needs, accommodating the needs of the family as well. One of the benefits your children enjoy at Kids Corner Childcare that you may not have realized is one of a multicultural experience. Our Daycare/Preschool environment is enriched by the cultural traditions of our teachers in the form of language, food, character, and personality from Kenyan, Armenian, Eritraen, Chinese, and French Canadian backgrounds.

Good Nutrition Sticks With Us Dorcas Okado is staying on with us this Fall as our Cook. The great importance of providing nutritious Lunches and Snacks for our kids at Kids Corner Childcare was brought to my attention once again this past week: One of our Preschoolers who has gone on to Kindergarten apparently loves to choose things himself for his lunch for school.
And what does he choose?
Fruits &
vegetables!! To him, the right foods for school are the ones he ate at Daycare. What an important thing it is to learn to eat healthy foods! Thanks, Dorcas!!
