GT Students Create Ornaments for Jefferson County Courthouse Tree

Elementary Quiz Bowl Team The elementary Quiz Bowl and Jr. High Quiz Bowl teams, coached by GT facilitator Laura McNulty, participated in the Jefferson County Spring Quiz Bowl Tournament. The elementary team, competed against 16 other teams from Jefferson County Schools (including White Hall, Star City, Watson Chapel, and Sheridan) was a first year team comprised of:

Pine Bluff High School Career Coaches Host…UAPB College Day at Pine Bluff High School A crowd of approximately 600 gathered in the McFadden Gym on the campus of Pine Bluff High School to attend the first University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) College Day. This was a “first” for the school and was hosted by the Pine Bluff High School Career Coaches, Michelle Heard and Dedric Jones. The event was held from 2:30 p.m. – 3:35 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016. The purpose of the college day was to showcase different majors and opportunities on the campus of UAPB. Students in grades 11-12 were allowed to attend the event. The career coaches felt that it would be fitting to have the several departments and organizations share information about their majors, area of study, and the benefits of working in their chosen fields. Several departments rallied together to share their gifts and exposure, including: Pine Bluff High School administrators, faculty and staff; Christopher Robinson, Director of Office of Recruitment for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arts Department, School of Education, LIONS Program, ROTC, School of Business, Computer Science, STEM, Admissions, and Agriculture/SAFHS. Dr. Laurence Alexander, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, the keynote speaker stated, “during our visit, we wanted to reassure the students of Pine Bluff High School that education is the key to more opportunities, and they can receive an affordable, high quality education with a personal touch right at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.” Alexander also stated, “We are dedicated to preparing students to excel in the 21 st century globalized society. We provide a wide-range of programs and opportunities, including internships research and leadership experiences. UAPB is a student focused, mission-based, success driven institution prepared to educate a new generation of pioneers and leaders.” Carter Buckner, a senior at Pine Bluff
High School stated, “After high school, I plan to major in Computer Science”. Buckner also said, “He enjoyed UAPB’s College Day because of the different departments represented there. Not only did representatives from the School of Arts and Sciences give valuable information about my intended major but they also pointed to other majors that I might be interested in. The school’s atmosphere shined through if not in the students who came then definitely in the faculty represented there Friday”. Sha’nee Hulsey, a proud senior of Pine Bluff High School. After graduating from high school, Hulsey stated, “I will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and major in Math Education. I really appreciate the administration, mentors, and other students at UAPB, who took time out to come present our high school juniors and seniors with some important information about their university. Through this experience, I learned more about the benefits of the Lion’s Program and the STEM Program. I am really looking forward to becoming a part of one of these programs when I start college. I am quite excited to experience a new journey at UAPB.” Michelle Heard, career coach, stated,” what a grand opportunity for our students. UAPB’s Personal Touch was demonstrated in an excellent manner by taking time to bring the college experience to our high school campus! Dedric Jones, career coach stated, “it’s always our goal to further inform students about planning and preparing for life after high school, whether transitioning to college or straight into a career. Serving the students is what I do best. It’s our job to make sure our students have a career plan after high school. I firmly believe if our students don’t have a plan, they plan to fail. Being able to provide opportunity for our students and their future makes the planning, and hard work worth the time and effort. I’m excited about our students potential and careers to come.”

34th Avenue Holds Thanksgiving Luncheon for Students and Parents On November 17, 2016, 34th Ave held a Thanksgiving Luncheon for students and parents/guardians. The turn out was very successful and the students really enjoyed eating with their parents.

Jack Robey’s Who’s Who
Jack Robey’s Charming Colts Young Ladies Club Enjoy a Day of Relating and Relaxing Charming Colts, the 7th grade young ladies club at Jack Robey, experienced a day of relating, releasing, and relaxing during their Girls Day Outing on December 10th. The group began the day with a visit to the Mosaic Templars Cultural Museum where they engaged in a scavenger hunt of historical information. They then traveled to Cici's Pizza to enjoy a lunch buffet. Following lunch, the girls luxuriated in shopping at McCain Mall. To conclude the trip, the group indulged in luxury loungers at Cinemark 18 (formerly the Rave Theater) while watching Trolls. Mrs. Linda Wyrick and Ms. LaKesha Foote are the group sponsors. The group's tagline is "More Precious Than Rubies."

Jack Robey students vote each month for "Robey's Who's Who?" of teachers and staff members, who go above and beyond to care for the student body. October's winners were Ms. Jaime Gordon and Mrs. Kelly Gibbs. Novembers winners were Ms. Tanya Hayes and Mrs. Courtney Bilbrey. The teachers also nominate students for the student edition of "Robey's Who's Who?", who demonstrate exceptionalism in and out of the classroom. The October winners were Faith Jackson and Corinthian Bray. The November winners were Devonte Lucas and Quincy Anderson.
Forrest Park/Greenville News Pine Bluff Police Department Santa Visit On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, the Pine Bluff Police Department brought Santa to visit Forrest Park/Greenville Pre-School. The scholars were extremely pleased to see Santa and his helpers. The faculty and staff of Forrest Park/Greenville are extremely thankful to the Pine Bluff Police Department for making the visit happen.

Forrest Park/Greenville Holds Scholastic Book Fair Event Forrest Park/Greenville held the Scholastic Book Fair Monday, December 5, 2016 - Tuesday, December 13, 2016. The theme of the Book Fair was the “Gift of Reading”. Mrs. Nancy Griffin, Ms. Kina Glass, and Mrs. LaJoyce Banks were the Book Fair chairpersons. The Forrest Park/Greenville students performed a series of Christmas selections for their parents, family, and friends in honor of the school's Book Fair. The performances were split over three days.
On Friday, December 9, 2016, one of Forrest Park/Greenville's community partners, Kosmic Kidz came by to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair. The Forrest Park/Greenville community was elated and appreciative that they were able to come and share the "gift of reading". #CommunityCollaborationRocks Each learning zone collected quarters to help with the profit of the Book Fair and to purchase books for their learning zone libraries. The class with the most
quarters will win a pizza party. In first place, is Mrs. Maxwell's class who raised close to $300 and in a second place we have Ms. Cosen's class who raised close to $200. Congratulations to those classes, and to all of the scholars in our school who collectively raised over $1,000 dollars to purchase books for their learning zone libraries! The class with the most quarters will win a pizza party.
