Temecula Preparatory School A Heritage of Virtue, Wisdom and Knowledge

Welcome Back Newsletter A  Message  from  our  Headmaster  &  Chief  Executive  Officer  .  .  .       Dear  TPS  Parents,     Welcome   to   a   new   school   year!   With   your   help   and   support,   we   have   had   a   great   start,  so  thank  you!!       I  wanted  to  take  this  opportunity  to  introduce  you  to  someone  who  is  a  trusted  and   well-‐respected   colleague,   Mr.   Michael   Tracy.   I   have   known   Mr.   Tracy   for   nearly   15   years.  We  served  together,  as  high  school  teachers  and  the  Dean  and  Assistant  Dean,   at  a  private  school  here  in  the  valley.     After   serving   together   for   two   years,   the   Tracy   family   had   their   first   child   and   they   decided  to  return  to  their  home  state  of  Maine.         Over  the  course  of  time,  my  professional  respect  for  Mr.  Tracy  has  grown  and  continues  to  grow.  In  Maine,  he   obtained  his  masters  in  educational  leadership  and  his  administrative  credential  and  then  quickly  moved  from   teaching   into   administration,   becoming   a   school   principal,   and   then   an   assistant   superintendent   while   he   maintained  his  principal’s  role.       He  has  worked  with  every  grade  level,  has  revamped  old  schools,  and  built  new  schools.    Mr.  Tracy  has  a  high   level  of  understanding  of  the  current  issues  we  face  such  as  Common  Core,  STEM,  and  technology  integration,   as  Maine  is  usually  a  few  steps  ahead.       But  more  importantly,  Mr.  Tracy  has  the  same  heart  for  education  that  we  at  TPS  do  –  he  deeply  understands   the  need  for  the  type  of  cultural  environment  we  provide  and  the  high  academic  standards  we  offer.       For  all  of  these  reasons  and  more,  I  contacted  Mr.  Tracy  in  January  2012  and  asked  him  to  serve  along  side  me,   as   our   Chief   Academic   Officer   to   help   us   make   some   needed   transitions   with   all   of   the   changes   the   state   is   requiring.  With  those  transitions  in  motion,  I  have  now  asked  him  to  serve  as  the  “Head  of  School”  as  well.       I  know  that  you  will  enjoy  and  appreciate  his  leadership  of  the  school  site,  his  experience,  his  sense  of  humor,   and  his  Maine  accent  –  but  most  of  all,  I  know  you  will  appreciate  his  heart.       Scott  S.  Phillips,  J.D.   Headmaster  &  Chief  Executive  Officer   Heritage  Classical  Charter  School

A  Message  from  TPS’  Head  of  School  .  .  .

Dear  TPS  Parents,     I   could   not   be   more   excited   or   feel   more   privileged   to   take   the   helm   of   our   flagship:     Temecula  Preparatory  School!    I  began  my  career  about  15  years  ago  in  a  small  town   in  Maine  thinking  that  I  would  make  a  difference  in  the  world’s  eye.    Well,  as  time   has  gone  on  and  life’s  experiences  have  matured  me,  I  have  come  to  realize  that  I   would  be  happy  making  a  difference  in  the  eyes  of  just  one  child.    Two  years  ago,  I   had  a  conversation  with  Mr.  Phillips  because  I  was  ready  to  do  something  great  that   would   truly   impact   others.     He   was   looking   for   someone   to   help   him   with   the   academic  program  at  Temecula  Preparatory  School.    When  Mr.  Phillips  offered  me   the  position  as  Chief  Academic  Officer,  working  closely  with  him,  I  knew  this  would   be  the  beginning  of  the  opportunity  I  was  looking  for.    During  this  time,  I  was  also   able   to   experience   the   unique   culture   of   our   school   and   learn   how   truly   special   it   is.     I   have   worked   in   several   schools,   in   a   handful   of   districts,   including   another   private   school   here   in   California   and   I  have  never  seen  a  school  quite  like  TPS.    I  am  here  because  I  believe  in  our  virtue,  not  in  word  but  in  deed.    I   am   here   because   I   am   a   father   who   believes   parents   are   first   and   foremost   responsible   for   their   child’s   education.     I   am   here   because   our   staff   is   the   hardest   working,   most   honorable   group   of   people   I   have   ever   had   the  opportunity  to  work  with  .  .  .  and  frankly,  the  list  could  go  on.           This  school  year,  our  faculty  will  work  together  in  order  for  TPS  to  become  the  best  classical  school  on  the  west   coast.    Part  of  that  focus  will  include  mapping  our  entire  curriculum,  fostering  valid  semester  benchmarks,  and   continuing  to  refine  our  curriculum  and  instructional  practice.    Our  teaching  staff  is  continually  looking  for  ways   to  engage  their  students  with  classical  methods  alongside  new  technology,  such  as  SMART  boards  and   Chromebooks.    This  type  of  technology  promotes  active  learning  in  the  classroom  and  we  plan  to  continue  the   integration  of  technology  into  our  classrooms  to  prepare  our  students  for  the  future!   I  am  honored  to  serve  as  Temecula  Preparatory  School’s  Head  of  School  and  look  forward  to  a  great  school  year!     If  you  have  any  questions  please  feel  free  to  contact  me  at  926-‐6776  or  email  at  [email protected].     Mike  Tracy,  M.  Ed.   Chief  Academic  Officer  &  Head  of  School   Temecula  Preparatory  School   Heritage  Classical  Charter  Schools
