Wolverines open “County Championship” against Bulldogs For the first time in school history, West Forsyth will play all Forsyth County high schools (public) on the varsity level. We open up this “County Championship” tonight with Forsyth Central, a team that we have never played on Friday night. To make the matchup more interesting, Forsyth Central has quite a few ties to this Wolverine program including Athletic Director Dan Kaplan and Head Coach Frank Hepler. Hepler started the football program here at West before Head Coach Adam Clack took over in 2014. The Bulldogs fully believe in their ability to take down the Wolverines tonight, and their favorite hashtag on social media this week has been #upsetalert. Central (3-2, 0-1) is trying to right the ship after taking on back to back losses while West Forsyth is trying to keep the momentum going after winning 4 straight, including a huge region opener last week against Milton. The Wolverines led the Eagles 7-3 at half and then blew the second half wide open. The West defense played lights out all night, and the Wolverine faithful saw the return of Kansas State commit Eli Huggins (DE #29). The trio of Huggins, David Carrillo (NT #50), and Jackson Brantley (DE #46) absolutely dominated the Milton offensive line and allowed the rest of the defense to make big plays. On the flip side of the ball, quarterback Kiernen Hamilton (#9) had another huge game going 28 of 39 for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ben Bresnahan (WR #88) had 2 of those touchdowns on 8 catches for 110 yards, and Thomas Arundale caught the other 2 touchdown throws and finished the night with 9 catches for 89 yards. This is a unique setting for the Wolverines as we have never had the opportunity to play all the county schools, let alone play them in four consecutive weeks. If West can stay locked in and look to improve our game each week, the future looks bright. Another bright spot tonight should be our neon Gulo Gang student section – best in the STATE. Get decked out in your best neon and make sure you don’t miss our first-ever matchup with Central tonight in our back yard!
Junior Ben Bresnahan (WR #88) had 8 catches for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns against Milton.
