What is the Parish Share? The parish share is the portion of the diocesan budget (the amount it costs to run the diocese) provided by each parish to finance and support the work of their church and the diocese. It is calculated on an annual basis and takes into account: The clergy allocated to a parish (full time, part-time, shared with another parish, etc) The number of regular worshippers in the church A subsidy of approx. £1m is provided by the Representative Body of the Church in Wales. This helps to reduce every parish share.
Ministry & mission
Diocesan investments also help bring down the parish share.
The diocesan budget is more than £4m per year. £3m of those running costs come from the Parish Share. The rest comes from a subsidy from the Church in Wales and from our diocesan investments.
Schools, children’s & youth work
For every £1 the diocese spends:
Clergy homes
Diocesan staff & events
70p pays for the clergy 11p pays for clergy homes 8p pays for diocesan officers/support staff 11p on our diocesan mission through the steering groups
Your parish share—held as low as possible for 2016
Diocesan Income/Expenditure
For 2016, the budget has been held at the 2015 level meaning the diocese will operate with a budget deficit. This has been done to keep the parish share as low as possible for many churches. Unfortunately it does not mean that there will be no increase in the parish share for all of our parishes. As the parish share is worked out on an annual basis and circumstances change from year to year, some parishes may see a rise or a fall in their parish share.
