2011 Vestry Candidates The vestry is the council of St Peter’s. In addition to transacting the temporal business of the church, the vestry works with the Rector, under the Bishop, to lead the congregation in the ministries of the church. Following the model of servant leadership, each member of the vestry is responsible for the effectiveness of our ministries, shaping and guiding them for the growth of the people of the congregation, and for our mission to the community beyond our walls. Members of the vestry are also committed to personal growth as leaders and to ministering to one another in Christian community. According to the Canons, a vestry member must be a “communicant in good standing” (DoVCanon 11, Sect. 4) defined as: “All communicants of this Church who for the previous year have been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and have been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God, are to be considered communicants in good standing.” (GC Title I, Canon 17, Sect 3)
Members who have pledged for 2011 or who were givers of record in 2010 or 2011 are eligible to vote and will be voting for 4 candidates.
The Annual Meeting will be your one opportunity to vote.
Vestry Candidate Pat Carson St. Peter‘s has been my spiritual home my entire life. I was baptized here by my uncle, Rev. Cyril Bellis, in 1948 and was confirmed by Rev. Matthew Curry in 1964. My father helped build the original church pews and my grandmother played the organ. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve on a number of ministries at St. Peter‘s. I currently serve on the Altar Guild, am volunteering in the front office, and participated as a co-table leader at the Holiness in Relationships program. My husband Geoff and I participated in this year‘s Interfaith Shelter, are currently greeters at 7:45, assist Anne Page in the Children & Young Families ministry (VBS, Fiesta Night, Snow Day, Christmas Pageant, etc.), teach Sunday School, and have recently joined the Guild of the Christ Child. I grew up in Solana Beach and was educated at San Dieguito High, UC San Diego, and UCLA School of Law. I have recently retired from 34 years at UC San Diego, holding positions as a biological researcher, business officer, and, finally, director of development services in the fundraising arm of the university. My career has been focused on project management and strategic planning--skills that I hope would be of use in helping to conduct the temporal business of the church and in working with the clergy to guide the ministries of our parish. Geoff and I have truly found our paths in Christ here at St. Peter‘s and are deeply committed to the core values of our parish. I would be extremely honored to serve as a member of its Vestry. Thank you and God Bless, Pat Carson
Vestry Candidate Aubrey Gonawela Aubrey was born in Sri Lanka and migrated to United States in 1996 with his wife Razeena. Prior to arriving in the USA he was member of the Sri Lankan Anglican community. Aubrey and his family joined the St. Peter‘s community in 2002 and has been a member since then. They have 2 kids, Andre & Ashlyn. Aubrey and Razeena have been supporting their son Andre to participate in many church activities. Aubrey is a Fashion Design graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandise and presently works as a Fashion / Formalwear consultant. Prior to arriving in USA worked as a Marketing Director and acted as an agent‘s representative for Major USA & International companies such as Dow Chemical Co, Air Products & Mobil Petrochemicals in the sale of their products to the Sri Lankan Market. Vestry Candidate Anne Iverson-Peltier Although I was born in La Jolla just a few miles from St. Peter‘s and baptized into the Episcopal family at All Souls Point Loma, I spent my childhood far from San Diego in southeast Asia and Europe thanks to my father‘s unusual career and my mother‘s adventurous spirit. I was confirmed by the Bishop of the Armed Forces while we lived in the Philippines and graduated from high school—my fifth—in Belgium. I returned ‗home‘ to California to attend Scripps College in Claremont where I received a degree in Art History. I worked for Sotheby‘s for a number of years and later the J. Paul Getty
Museum, after graduate studies in Providence, Rhode Island at Brown. Six years ago I married Alan Peltier and moved back to San Diego, where I quickly found a church home at St. Peter‘s. Much to my delight, I was soon joined at St. Peter‘s by my parents—Peter and Nancy Iverson. Here in San Diego, my career evolved into development work for the arts and I worked as Director of Development for Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. Alan and I now have two children, Olivia Louise (3 ½) and Charles Lucian (1 ½), who were both baptized at St. Peter‘s and made their stage debuts as infants playing Baby Jesus in the Christmas Pageant. I completed Education for Ministry (EfM) in 2009, and currently serve on the Altar Guild, Fellowship Committee, coteach baptism classes, and lector. I am interested in running for the vestry because I believe it is critical to have wide-ranging representation within church leadership, and I am prepared to give a young adult and mother‘s perspective to the work of the vestry. St. Peter‘s is very dear to me—I love our beautiful campus, our choir, and our rich traditions, but most of all the wonderful extended family of St. Peter‘s! I would be honored to serve as your vestry person.
Vestry Candidate Brian Laidlaw I started attending St Peters Church Sunday services in the late 90s with my wife Pam. After attending for a few years I joined the Tuesday morning Bible study which I continue to enjoy each Tuesday. For the last three years I have been very involved with the Helping Hands ministry in both spending a day a week working with the homeless and serving on a committee that deals with creating procedures and policies for our guests. I volunteer as an usher each month. I am one of the founding members of the Newcomers committee which holds Sunday brunches at our homes to welcome
new members to the church. I have also been a part of the supper clubs and the small study groups. I retired three year ago from the land development industry where I was a senior executive of a national development company.
Vestry Candidate Stephen Montgomery My name is Steve Montgomery. I have been attending St. Peters for 2 years. My family has really enjoyed being a part of the church family and feel very at home here. We have felt very welcomed and we really love the community and the church's focus on serving our community. I have been fortunate enough to attend some of the various offerings of the church like the baptism class, the Sunday forums, and the Advent book discussion. I work as a financial advisor at Charles Schwab in Carmel Valley. I have been married to my wife, Kristen, for 16 years. We have two daughters, Olivia (7) and Noelle (4). They both attend Sunday School which we feel is an important part of their overall education. We think the curriculum is outstanding and think the teachers do an amazing job with our children. I have enjoyed helping out the family ministry and thank Ann for the odd jobs she has given me like shoveling snow, blowing up balloons and making pancakes. I would be willing to serve on the vestry because I believe the church is an important hub for our community and as a father of young children I understand the importance of and value the work the church does in ministering to young families.
Vestry Candidate Kent “K.C. Thompson St. Peter's is a special and integral part of my life, a journey that I have been asked to share by this writing. Being a cradle Episcopalian, my spiritual life began in a very small town in eastern Nebraska, where Sunday morning's meant an early morning trip, some twentyfive miles, to St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont. Upon my family's move to Santa Barbara, All Saints-by-the-Sea parish became my second home. After leaving for Lehigh University and then law school at the University of Wyoming, my spiritual commitment became a very personal one, including serious consideration of attending seminary at The University of the South, a story for another time. My journey to St. Peter‘s was very short, the joy and comfort of the Church itself had an immediate impact . . . and then I started meeting the people of St. Peter‘s and I knew that my journey was complete. My journey at St. Peter‘s, thankfully, is ever evolving. This December 30th, Linda and I will celebrate the first anniversary of our joyous wedding at St. Peter‘s. Linda and I enjoy attending the Saturday, 5:00 pm, service and the monthly Evensong, but we realized that we miss the social opportunities of Sunday mornings. During the last year, involvement in the Ministries of St. Peter‘s has provided an opportunity for our learning, our service and a means of meeting more of the people of the Parish. On a professional note, for thirty-six years I have practiced law in downtown San Diego with the same law partner, in the areas of Trust, Probate and Conservatorship administration, real property and business law. While still getting to know St. Peter's, my bond to its spirituality, its history, its physical beauty and its people are well settled. I look forward to the pleasure and the privilege of serving the community that is St. Peter's for many years to come, offering my legal, business and practical experiences to ever build upon the works of St. Peter's. Serving on the Vestry of St. Peter‘s would be a privilege. Faithfully, K.C. Thompson

Diocesan Convention Delegates Kathy Aiau Joan Bond Suzanne Foucoult Sandy Lanzarotta Karolen Linderman Chris Miller Geoff Schiering Members who have pledged for 2011 or who were givers of record in 2010 or 2011 are eligible to vote and will be voting for 5 delegates. Your only opportunity to vote will be at the Annual Meeting.
Delegate Candidate Kathy Aiau My name is Kathy Aiau and I am interested in running for convention delegate. I was baptized at St. Mark‘s Episcopal church in Brunswick Georgia and confirmed at St. Paul‘s Cathedral with Bishop Rusack I am a life long Episcopalian with most of my years spent at St. Peter‘s. As a child, I became the first girl acolyte at St. Peter‘s. I did leave to go to college, graduate school, and to pursue the library field in Georgia and Texas. After I returned to California in the mid 90‘s, I started to attend St. Peter‘s again. I became involved in various activities, such as but not limited too: Thrift Shop, Sunday School teaching, Coffee, and library. I am now involved in the Altar Guild, Office volunteer Camp Stevens Board of Visitors and third year EFM student. Outside of church, I attend the Old Globe, Symphony, Indoor Sockers, volunteer at Beckman Center and Solana Beach Library Bookstore, and I also love taking care of animals. Usually the services I attend are 5:00, 7:45, (south transit) and Evensong. I have been an alternate for five years and enjoy serving at the diocesan level. Delegate Candidate Joan Bond St. Peter's has been my church home since 1991, when my husband Tom accepted a position as Associate Rector here. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, where I attended Wayne State University and graduated with a degree in Education. I've taught school in Michigan, Florida, and California. I also taught many summers of Vacation Bible School in our parish. (Some of "my kids" now have children of their own who attend VBS!) I've participated in many other ministries here, including the Women of St. Peter's as Outreach chair and chair of two of their silent retreats, Sarah's Circle, Daughters of the King, Cursillo, member of the Outreach Ministry team, and worker in the Thrift Shop. Once a month I play the piano during our Sunday service at Emeritus Senior Living. I also tag along sometimes when Tom,
now Associate for Senior Ministry and Pastoral Care, visits the sick. I believe being a delegate to the Diocesan Convention requires, first and foremost, carefully and prayerfully reading all the information that's sent from the Bishop's Office regarding who is running for office and what resolutions will be voted upon, listening carefully to the opinions voiced by the parish members whom I will be representing, and then paying close attention to what is said by anyone speaking from the floor of the Convention. Knowing from experience how interesting and informative all these tasks are makes me want to be a Convention delegate in 2012. Delegate Candidate Suzanne Foucault In her secular life, Suzanne is an organizational consultant, working in the public and private sectors to assist organizations with team building, strategic planning, and conflict resolution. In the wider Episcopal Church, she does similar work for parishes and dioceses and also consults to the election of bishops. Here at St. Peter‘s she has served as Senior Warden, Capital Campaign Co-Chair, and Vice Chair of a Rector Call Committee. She is currently a Lector during worship, a member of Sarah‘s Circle, and a member of the Outreach Committee. This year, Suzanne facilitated the Holiness In Relationships Dialogues, and served as the Coordinator of the Interfaith Shelter. She is married to Deacon Bob Nelson, and is the mother of two ―20-something‖ daughters, Annie and Kit. Suzanne writes, ―I believe St. Peter‘s has a heart for the work the gospel calls us to do – to love one another, to provide for the least of us, to reconcile and heal division, and to provide a place at the table for everyone. I have been truly blessed by the community and work of St. Peter‘s.‖
Delegate Candidate Sandi Lanzarotta I am very interested in being one of your representatives for next year‘s convention. I have been very active at St. Peter‘s since 1996 participating in several ministries throughout the years. I have been a delegate to several conventions, have served on the most recent calling committee for our new rector, have been on our vestry and am currently chairing our property ministry. I have also taken over the honor of being president of our Daughters of the King chapter at St. Peter‘s. For this year‘s convention I am responsible for putting together the three day prayer chain . Being a delegate requires active knowledge in church affairs and being current on issues not only effecting our parish and diocese but effecting our national and world wide Anglican community. One of the best ways to do this is to subscribe to the daily Episcopal News Service which is available at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/ens. I have read this for years and have found it one of the best ways to keep up to date on our Episcopal community. Thank you for considering me. Yours in Christ. Delegate Candidate Karolen Linderman I have lived in Del Mar since 1986 and moved to the San Diego area in 1979 from Washington, DC, where I was born and raised. Before I retired in May of last year, I spent 10 years working in online Sales and Marketing for The Union Tribune and SignOnSanDiego. I was also the Project Manager for The San Diego Eldercare Directory. Prior to that I owned and operated a group of retail furniture stores in San Diego and Los Angeles.
I joined St.Peter‘s in 1994 and have served on the Vestry and the Search Committee that ultimately called Fr. Wendfeldt. It has been my pleasure to be a regular lector for the 7:45 service on Sunday mornings and the monthly Evensong Service. The Interfaith Shelter is also another one of my commitments every year. I get far more than I give. I recently started working with Fr. Bond as his Senior Services assistant helping with the monthly luncheons and Wednesday morning Coffee Klatches. St. Peter‘s is a very special community and I am blessed to be part of it. Delegate Candidate Chris Miller I started attending St. Peter‘s about 1997 when my daughter Carrie was invited to join the youth group. I retired from a career in travel and volunteered at St. Peter's Thrift Shop. That volunteer job turned into managing the shop and I have been there for almost eleven years. I am a member of Daughters of the King, Cursillo, Centering Prayer, Outreach Ministry and serve as a Eucharist Minister. Worshiping and serving at St. Peter‘s is a ―JOY‖ in my life.
Delegate Candidate Geoffrey Schiering Geoffrey Schiering is a Realtor in North County San Diego (J.D./M.B.A./Broker). Geoff has been married to Anne-Marie Schiering for 16 years and they have two sons, Gabriel and Andrew. Geoff is a member of the vestry at St. Peter‘s in Del Mar (also serving on the Financial Committee and as liaison to the Children & Young Families and Prayer Ministries). Geoff is a thurifer and lector at St. Peters, and has completed 3 years of Education for Ministry.
