Wilton Soccer Association Board Meeting Minutes December 18, 2017 Board Member Attendees: Jeanne Cronin, George Cross, Carol Faherty, Michelle Haggerty, Jerry Hendricks, Joanna Lepore, Dave Loughran, Jason Partenza, Cecilia Simmonds, Gavin VonLoeser Absent:, Julie Setterlund, Gabe Tully, Nancy Ward Non Board Member Attendees: Ritesh Mistry, John Salvatore, Ben Weiss Motions Approved: Unanimous approval of the November 2017 Board minutes. Coaching Update: Soccer Extreme: Ben: The winter clinics are almost full. An email will go out to fill the remaining spots. During the winter session if there is inclement weather, sessions will run if WSF is open. John: Supplemental tryouts are scheduled at WSF on February 10. After the registration deadline, the travel director will determine which groups need supplemental tryouts. John is gathering feedback from managers and parents on coaches. This year about 75% of coaches are from the US and approximately 25% are international coaches. Finally, the group discussed how to best utilized WSF in 2018. WSA will book space at WSF the weeks of 3/19, 3/26 and 4/4 in case there is a delay in opening the fields for the spring season. BOARD UPDATES President – George Cross: George attended a meeting with Parks & Rec concerning additional turf fields in town. The fields will need to be funded by the athletic teams. Wilton Lacrosse attended the meeting and expressed interest in working with the WSA to raise these funds. Going forward, George will try and attend all SWD and CJSA meetings. Treasurer – Jerry Hendricks: The WSA can use PayBall to pay travel referees and junior referees. Also, Jerry will look at options, such as Venmo, to try and minimize credit card fees. Intramural K-2 – Joanna Lepore: None Team Warrior – OPEN: None VP Girls Travel–Cecelia Simmonds: Cecelia is following up on travel registrations and payments. VP Boys Travel- Dave Loughran: The early coaching fee deadline will help determine which teams need supplemental tryouts. Registration deadline is 1/15 and payment is due by 1/31. Merchandising & Sponsorships- Gavin VonLoeser Gavin provided a handout with an example of another soccer association’s sponsorship plan. The group discussed ideas around funded a new turf field in town- one idea is building fields with a dome that can be used year round.
Programming & Tryouts – Jason Partenza: The supplemental tryout date is set for 2/10 at WSF. Once registration closes, he can determine which groups need tryouts. Currently, the U11 Boys Blue team has 2 spots open. Fields & Operations – Gabe Tully: None Tournament/Jr Referee Assignor- Julie Setterlund: None Web Director – Michelle Haggerty: All registration emails were sent and reminders will go out in early January. We need to increase communications by getting more people on the Facebook page and the WSA website. All WSA Board members now have Gmail accounts with their titles in the email.
