Stay connected to THDA!

In recognizing that the Great Choice loan program is one of many loan options in a lender’s wheel house, THDA wanted to make certain that our staff was providing the appropriate training opportunities to our lending partners, assisting them with challenging loan scenarios and keeping them abreast of changes to the program at all times. In order to do this most effectively THDA has added a team of Customer Service Account Managers whose specific duties are to be readily available in assisting our lenders by promoting the THDA Great Choice program. Who better to introduce this team and work with them in their efforts but Marvene Carey, THDA’s Single Family Loan Production Advisor. Please keep in mind these Managers are here to make your experience with the Great Choice Program seamless. They will be traveling to your offices to meet you, offering training opportunities for new and seasoned loan originators, helping you utilize THDA’s free marketing tools in order to increase your business, as well as encouraging new lenders in TN to become THDA approved Originating Agents. CONNECT TEAM NEWS Denise McBride Community Outreach Liaison—Middle Tennessee

On April 14, I had the pleasure of joining Jimmy D. Dugger, Vice President and REALTOR® with Crye-Leike Real Estate to share the Great Choice mortgage program at a workshop held in Mt. Pleasant at the South Central Tennessee Development District. The topic of the workshop was Fair Housing which included fair housing law, discrimination, the complaint process and the responsibility to enforce fair housing practices. The audience included community leaders composed of mayors, finance directors, city managers and senior accountants, who represented the counties of Coffee, Lawrence, Maury, Franklin, Perry, Wayne and Lewis. The participants were familiar with the Fair Housing Act, but like most complex issues remembering and understanding what is prohibited stimulated good productive conversation. The program gave me the opportunity to introduce THDA, its mission and to present the Great Choice mortgage program as a viable program choice for potential buyers. Several of the counties represented at the meeting were classified as targeted which means that a borrower who is not a first-time homebuyer may be eligible if they are buying in those special targeted areas. The audience was also made aware that mortgage applicants who had not resided in a home that they owned during the last 3 years, and veterans and their spouses are exempt from the first-time homebuyer requirement. Both sessions were well received and most importantly we were able to talk to people who can help us spread the good news about what we can offer a potential homeowner. It was also rewarding to have the opportunity to partner with Jimmy Dugger, a strong advocate for THDA as well as a member of our Housing Industry Advisory Board. Wow, it was a rewarding day.
