BLUEBELL WALK AT GATTON BOTTOM I enjoyed walking around the woods and reading and following the instructions. I liked seeing the bluebells. Ryan I liked the walk. The bluebells were really pretty and trying to find the way. We had a map and Instructions. Holly I was guiding my group by using my map skills. The walk was long and hard but eventually we made it to the bluebell woods. The bluebells dazzled in the sunlight. Toby We went for a walk in the bluebell woods and we had to try and follow the instructions. It was quite hard but we got There. Harry This was an exercise in following directional instruction in a real setting. It was also very beautiful. Map, instructions and landmarks were followed.

I saw the sharks swim over my head when we went in the tunnel. I liked the food at Jimmys, where we went for lunch. Tom I enjoyed the crazy golf and going to Jimmys. Sealife was absolutely amazing, I went up a few steps and a turtle swam in front of me and I saw a shark moving really fast. I had fun joining in the activites at the Old Pheasantry, like bubbles through the hoop and moving the cans. Simon

SUMMER COOKING (AND MORE)

We make cakes and our lunch. I enjoyed the vegetable curry but my favourite is making cakes. I am doing it on my own now but I was very nervous when I first started. I feel independent. I like making different cakes and I enjoy learning about it. I think I am getting a bit more confident. Jessica I think I could be more confident and independent., I am working on it. I like following a recipe and baking. Ryan I enjoy making the food sometimes. I like making cakes. My favourite is chocolate cake. Oliver Cooking is good fun because you get to eat it after. Holly Lunches we have made include: pasta salad with roasted veg, homemade sausage rolls and coleslaw, puff pastry savoury flans, home made bread rolls and ploughmans, cheese and potato pie, tortilla, fajhitas, stir fry. The emphasis is on healthy eating and dishes that enable students to use a lot of skills that encourage independence. TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

It is always hard to quantify the changes we see in our students, but without exception they are definitely young adults when they leave. We are always sad to see them go but pleased as well, that they are so much better equipped to deal with the new challenges ahead. We are delighted that every one of them successfully completed accredited units covering Lifeskills and in some cases, Entry Level Maths and English. We hope to hear from all of them to let us know how they get on.

Dear Families Another successful year that once again has seen all our students achieve and some fantastic progress made. We are having to make some changes to our Functional Skills accreditation due to the decision by the awarding bodies to withdraw stand alone units. We have used these for several years and are extremely disappointed at the decision made. I will keep you informed and will outline our plans in September. I am currently awaiting for some response from OFQUAL, (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation ). We look forward to welcoming our new students Tahmina, Grace, Maria, Nicola, Zack, Callum, Nathan, David, Ellie and Gracie.

In the meantime we do hope you all enjoy a well deserved break and a warm, if not sunny, summer. Diane Calder Centre Manager
