MATCH FACTS  There was an average of 4.4 tries and 6.1 penalty goals per match  The winning team scored the most tries in seven of the 12 matches.  Six of the 12 matches had a points difference of five or less  The lineout continued to be the most fruitful source of tries, with almost 40 per cent coming from this source.  Eight tries were scored from turnovers; eight from opponents’ kicks  One try in three started from inside the scoring team’s own half, with seven of the 16 scored by Fiji  Sixty-three per cent of tries contained two or fewer phases and 57 per cent contained three or fewer passes  Twenty-two tries were scored in the first half and 31 in the second  Backs scored 31 tries and the forwards 22  The conversion success rates was 60 per cent  Ball in play was 30 minutes 32 seconds or 38 per cent  Overall, there was a pass every eight seconds, a ruck every 12 seconds and a kick every 57 seconds  Only one in three restarts was contestable  Lineouts were successfully retained on 84 per cent of occasions – 46 per cent were contested  Scrum possession was retained on 88 per cent of occasions  Just under 60 per cent of tries came from the set piece possessions of scrum and lineout  The winning team had the most possession in five of the 12 matches.

TEAM FACTS FIJI Fiji won the 2015 title after three victories and one draw 

They scored more points and more tries than any other team



All three of Fiji’s wins were by margins of 10 points or fewer



Only one team conceded more points than Fiji and no team conceded more tries.



They scored 60 per cent of their tries in the first half



They scored a try every three minutes of possession – the next nearest team required over five minutes



They conceded 10 of 12 tries (or over 80 per cent) in the second half.

SAMOA Samoa were runners-up after losing to Fiji in the final 

Samoa’s results were all close. One match was drawn, their two wins had margins of five points and one point, while the game that was lost was by a margin of 10.

TONGA Tonga came third, after beating Japan in their final game 

Tonga scored more tries than their opponents in all three of their wins.
