BUTLER WOMEN’S SOCCER 2016 Game Notes

LSU at Butler I September 4, 2016 I Indianapolis, Indiana I Butler Bowl

SCHEDULE CHANGE

The women’s soccer match between LSU and Butler originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, Sept. 4 in Bloomington, Ind. has been moved to the Butler Bowl. The date will stay the same, but the time will be moved up to 1PM. The news to change the location of the Hoosier Challenge Cup broke Monday morning. Travel arrangements for LSU were altered which changed the overall format of the tournament. Butler will still face SMU in Bloomington on Friday, Sept. 2. The contest will begin at 12:30.

HOOSIER CHALLENGE CUP

The Hoosier Challenge Cup will feature an All-Tournament Team and an overall tournament winner. The team with the most points will be declared the winner with each program earning three points for a win and one point for a tie. In the event of a tie, most goals scored will be the first tiebreaker and least goals conceded will be the deciding factor as the second tiebreaker rule. For full details on the Hoosier Challenge Cup visit IUHoosiers.com.

CONFLICTING STYLES

Something will have to give on Friday afternoon when the stingy Butler defense goes headto-head against the high-powered SMU offensive attack. The Mustangs have scored 17 goals in just two games by recording victories at home over Northwestern State and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Butler on the other hand has only allowed two goals this season over a span of four games. On the flip side, SMU goalkeepers have not recorded a single save heading into Friday, while Hannah Luedtke has made 10 stops for the Bulldogs.

BUTLER SHUT DOWN AKRON 2-0

The Bulldogs posted a 2-0 victory against Akron on Sunday afternoon. The shutout victory featured one goal in each half to secure the win. The first score was recorded by newcomer Maeve Burger on a nice assist from Hannah Farley. Farley charged up the right side of the field and found Burger for the header goal that beat the keeper to the right side. In the second half, a second great pass allowed BU to double their lead as a sliding Serina Kashimoto would notch her second goal of the season off a long pass from Maria Collica.
