Xi Kappa -At-Large Chapter Awards and Scholarships Guidelines The Xi Kappa -at- Large Chapter awards and scholarships are designed to recognize nursing colleagues for their accomplishments and to reward outstanding undergraduate and graduate students. To nominate an individual for an award or scholarship, please refer to the specific criteria and complete a nomination form, a statement describing how the nominee demonstrates the criteria for the award (including pertinent examples), and obtain the resume or curriculum vitae of the nominee. The deadline for all award submissions is September 15th of each year. The deadline for all scholarship submissions is September 15th of each year.
Awards Xi Kappa -At- Large Chapter Excellence in Caring Award This award will be given annually to a member who promotes the art and science of nursing in caring that achieves positive outcomes for clients and/or the profession, advocates for others in health promotion, and demonstrates caring in any field of nursing.
Xi Kappa -At- Large Chapter Excellence in Nursing Research Award This award will rotate between Nursing Practice, Leadership, and Education. The Research award will be given to a member who demonstrates current research activities, promotes the development, dissemination, and utilization of nursing knowledge, and participates in research activities of interest to the health care profession and the public. This award will be given every other year in the odd years (i.e. 2015, 2017).
Xi Kappa –At- Large Chapter Excellence in Nursing Practice Award This award will rotate between Nursing Leadership, Education, and Research. The Nursing Practice award will be given to a member who demonstrates clinical excellence in an area of nursing practice through innovation, influence, and/or extraordinary performance, shows evidence of having mentored student nurses, and advocates for clients. This award will be given every other year in the even years (i.e. 2014, 2016).
Xi Kappa –At- Large Chapter Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award This award will rotate between Nursing Education, Research, and Practice. The Nursing Leadership award will be given to a member who demonstrates current nursing leadership activities, has marked achievement in the field of nursing as well as evidence of mentoring the nursing leaders of tomorrow, and participates in leadership activities of interest to the health care profession and the public. This award will be given every other year in the odd years (i.e. 2015, 2017).
Xi Kappa –At- Large Chapter Excellence in Nursing Education Award This award will rotate between Nursing Research, Practice, and Leadership. The Nursing Education award will be given to a member who demonstrates excellence in teaching or promoting education as well as holds a position in which the primary function is education/teaching to nurses, other health care professionals or community individuals. This award will be given every other year in the even years (i.e. 2014, 2016).
Scholarships Martha Vorvick Berge Memorial Scholarship In order to advance the interests, commitment, and passion that Martha brought to the nursing profession, this Scholarship is designed to continue her support of education endeavors in nursing at the undergraduate level. This annual scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in nursing who demonstrates a passion for nursing and is involved in community service. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
Xi Kappa –at- Large Chapter Nursing Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships The purpose of this undergraduate and graduate annual scholarship awards program is to promote educational endeavors in nursing both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Recipients of the scholarships shall demonstrate outstanding performance in two or more of the following activities: clinical, academic, creative, research, leadership, or community service as evidenced by a number of criteria. Please review the process for scholarship application for additional information. Undergraduates must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Graduate students must be accepted into a graduate nursing program and possess a current Sigma Theta Tau membership.
