Year One Weekly Update Date: 9th March 2018 We had a fantastic time at the Blue Reef aquarium in Hastings on the Monday before the snow! The children were fascinated by all the information we were given on our tour and asked some really insightful and interesting questions. They behaved impeccably and I was very proud of them. Lots of photos of the day are on our class gallery page. In English we have been making leaflets using all the information we gathered on our trip and drawing some fantastic sea life pictures. We will be using their experience at the aquarium to enrich their writing on our core text ‘The Snail and the Whale’. In Maths we have been working on fractions and learning about halves and quarters. We have visualised this using apples, pizzas and other resources. In Geography we have been using ipads, globes and atlases to research oceans and make posters about the facts we have found. We have also had lots of fun in P.E. playing our favourite team game – bench ball! Wednesday was crazy hair day and some of our parents joined us for Maths and phonics lessons. The children love a chance to show off you how they work in class.
Friday’s postponed world book day was lots of fun! The children looked fantastic in their costumes (the staff quite enjoyed the chance to dress up too!) We spent the morning doing storytelling in different classes and then in the afternoon we made characters from books on giant canvases in our houses. This is a lovely opppotunity for the the class to work with children from other year groups.
