Youth Winter Retreat Recap! Last weekend 25 youth and 6 adults went to Gatlinburg for a winter retreat! We stayed in a cabin that was perfect for the youth to be able to hang out and have fun. During the time we were there, we gathered together 3 times in the living room for worship and then broke out into small group discussions. There was even time for a scavenger hunt in downtown Gatlinburg, ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at Ober Gatlinburg! Thank you to Mike & Ann Carr, Angel & Stirling Rait, & Tara White for chaperoning the trip!

REV. BYRON VANCE, SENIOR PASTOR

State of Grace at PCFUMC There’s a preacher I know who had a bell that he kept inside the pulpit. When he got to a point in his sermon that he felt like deserved an, “Amen”, he would reach in, pull out the bell, and ring it. And, just like Pavlov’s dog, the people sitting in the pews would join in. “Amen!” I wish I had that bell sometimes. If I did, I’d be ringing it right now. And all God’s people said…. With this first article of 2017, let’s celebrate some of what God has been doing here at PCFUMC: Hundreds of food insecure children and adults were fed through Pack-a -Snack and Loaves and Fishes. Thank you for showing up early on Wednesday nights to pack bags and on Tuesday afternoons to prepare and deliver meals. Since January 2016, 11 people have joined the church by making a first time profession of faith, including Monica Christian on New Year’s Day. We welcomed missionaries Miki and Charlie Chastain and Rev. Rhett Thompson, serving Estonia and Panama, and will welcome the Dejarnetts, missionaries to India, in 2017. Your generous giving helped us reach our Ministry and Mission Budget for 2016, fully funding God’s work in Pell City and across the world. Two Sunday School classes were formed in 2016, new connections for parents and young adults. Events in Baton Rouge forced a “local” Youth Mission trip, serving at Camp Sumatanga, Eastlake UMC and Reconciler in Birmingham, and the UMCOR warehouse in Decatur. Way to go, youth, for awesome work and “make it work” attitudes! PCFUMC was named the Head Start’s Nonprofit Humanitarian Organization of the Year for Alabama and Southeast Region of Head Start’s. Great work, Teresa Harris, and the wonderful ladies who volunteered weekly! We don’t need a bell to say “AMEN” to what God is doing. Let’s continue as A Community of Believers Seeking to Transform Lives through Jesus Christ. Peace of Christ, —Byron

Lay Leadership Every Tuesday, members of our church gather to prepare meals for about 200 elderly, disabled, and low income individuals in our community. We need additional volunteers to help plate and/or deliver the meals. We meet at 2:30pm and are usually finished plating and delivering by 4:30pm. If you are willing to help weekly or as a substitute, please contact Judy Hicks at 405-6997 or John Hoffman at 338-6322. Our food cost is about $400 weekly, and even after the Christmas Eve offering, we only have funds for about six weeks operations. We need additional contributions to keep this ministry going.
