Helpful Hints and Tips: To prevent fabric and stabilizer from shifting in the hoop use Hoop Grip Tape. Place Hoop Grip Tape on the outer edges of the inner hoop. Remove the yellow protective backing on the tape to expose the adhesive. Place the sticky adhesive side on the outside of the inner hoop. The other side of the tape has a rubberized finish and creates just the right amount of grip to prevent shifting of the single layer of hooped stabilizer during stitching.
Use Comfort Grips on the hoop screws. They allow you to get a tight grip on the screws and work especially well for arthritic fingers. Print templates of the embroidery designs on translucent foundation paper for better visibility and alignment of the designs on your table runner. Use black bobbin thread with thread color 1000 and white bobbin thread with thread color 1118. The guide on page 10 indicates which designs were used, where those designs were placed on the table runner, and how the designs were modified (resized, rotated, and/or mirror imaged). Tape the templates in place using Sewer’s Fix-It Tape. The low tack adhesive of the Sewer’s Fix It Tape allows the tape to be removed easily without leaving adhesive residue on fabric. Remember to remove templates before stitching. Instructions: 1. Prepare fabric: – Stabilize the table runner top with spray starch or starch alternative and press. – Cut two lengths of fusible cut-away stabilizer the same length of the table runner top. – Fuse the cut-away stabilizer, overlapping in the center ½", to the wrong side of the table runner top, following manufacturer’s instructions. Trim extra stabilizer away from each long side of the table runner top. Trim extra stabilizer Fusible stabilizer

– Mark two guidelines on the right side of the table runner top, centered vertically and horizontally, using an erasable fabric marking pen or pencil. Right side of fabric Mark vertical and horizontal center lines with an erasable fabric marking pen
2. Set up the sewing/embroidery machine and embroidery unit: – Insert a new embroidery needle, size 75/11. – Attach the embroidery unit to your machine. – Hoop the stabilized fabric, centering the fabric using the vertical and horizontal lines as guides. – Tighten the hoop’s tension screw. 3. Embroider table runner: – Import and select embroidery design #RS229. Embroider the design in the center of the table runner top. – Detach hoop from the embroidery unit, unhoop the embroidered fabric.
– Position the templates for design #RS228 and design #RS230 approximately 2¾" from the left and right side of the center medallion. Tape the templates in place using Sewer’s Fix-It Tape.

– Rehoop the table runner top, using the templates as a guide, and embroider the two remaining center medallions. Detach hoop from the embroidery unit, unhoop the embroidered fabric. – Print four templates for design # RS220 and four of its mirror image using an embroidery software program, such as Amazing Designs Edit Express. Trim two original templates and two of the mirror image templates close to the pair of butterflies, keeping the center mark for positioning. – Position the templates following the pictured diagram, page 10, taping them in place using Sewer’s Fix It Tape.
– Select design #RS220. Continue following the steps above of hooping the fabric using the templates as guides, embroider the design, detach the hoop from the embroidery unit and unhooping the embroidered fabric. – Continue to embroider the remaining three designs. – For the pair of butterflies without the leaves, use Design #RS220. Edit the design by increasing the design size 110% (approximately 102.6 mm x 113.0 mm). In the embroidery screen, skip or advance past color 1, for the two butterflies and embroider. – Continue to embroider the remaining three designs of butterflies. – Carefully, peel up and trim away excess cut-away stabilizer by cutting close to the embroidery, about ¼" using a craft scissors. Wrong side of fabric (bobbin thread side)

– Press the table runner top well, right side down on a padded pressing surface. Allow to cool/dry completely. 4. Layer the table runner: – Fuse the batting to the bobbin side of the table runner, following manufacturer’s directions.
4
– Measure and mark cutting lines 6¾" from the horizontal center line along both upper and lower edges and mark cutting lines 1" from the outer most butterflies at both right and left ends, keeping corners square. Table runner should measure approximately 13½" x 33". Batting

– Tape the backing, wrong side up, on a flat, work surface using Sewer’s Fix-It Tape. The backing should be smooth, but not stretched. Center batting/table runner top over the backing. Pin layers together with curved basting pins. Remove tape. – Baste the table runner perimeter approximately ¼" - 3/8" in from marked cutting lines. Backing, wrong side up Batting Marked cutting line

– Remove pins. 5
Bind the table runner: – Cut three crosswise strips 3¾" wide from black binding fabric. – Join short ends of the binding strips, right sides together, using a diagonal seam to reduce bulk. Trim seam allowance to approximately ¼"; press seam open. Repeat for remaining binding seams.
– Square one end of the binding strip using a gridded ruler for accuracy. 8

– Press cut end at a 45° angle, creating a visible triangle.
– Fold binding in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, meeting lengthwise edges; press.
– Mark table runner ½" from each corner.
6
– Meet the angle-pressed end of the binding to the right side of the table runner, meeting cut edges and starting in the center of one long side. Stitch the binding to the table runner with a ½" seam, beginning 3" from the end of the binding and stopping at the marked point at the corner; lock stitches.
– Fold binding up, creating a 45° angle, aligning the cut edge of the binding with the cut edges of the table runner.
– Fold binding down, meeting binding fold to top edge of table runner and binding cut edge to side edges. – Stitch ½" seam on the side, starting at folded edge.
– Repeat at remaining corners. Stop stitching approximately 3" before the start of the binding. A 6" section remains unstitched. – Smooth the binding end over the beginning of the binding strip. Mark the end (which is on top) where it crosses over the vertical cut edge of the angle-pressed end.
– Open the marked end and trim the binding end square and even at the mark. 8

– Meet binding ends, right sides together, with the diagonal fold covering the binding tail. Pin inner cut edges together.
– Gently open fold the binding folds; turn to expose the diagonal pressed fold at the beginning of the binding. This provides a stitching line. Stitch along the diagonal fold, right sides together. Test fit by refolding the binding. If necessary, re-stitch, adjusting seam allowance. Trim seam allowance to ¼" and press open.
– Reposition binding and stitch remaining portion of seam.
– Fold and press binding away from quilt and to the wrong side, covering the stitching line. Pin or secure binding with Wonder Clips.
8
– Replace the presser foot with the Edge Joining Foot. Thread the needle with a thread that blends with the table runner fabrics. Secure the folded-under binding edge by stitching in the ditch, from the right side, sewing in the well of the seam through all the layers to catch the folded edge on the back of the table runner. Or, hand stitch the folded edge in place, along the binding seam.
5. Coloring with Permanent Fabric Markers: – Use permanent fabric markers to color in these quick to stitch garden friends.
