Update: Detectives Make Arrest in Southwest Side Homicide February 23, 2017 On February 20, 2017, two homicides happened in a short time frame. The first occurred in the Sheriff’s Departments jurisdiction and the second occurred within the City of Tucson. Based on clear communication between the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Tucson Police Department, 27year-old Roque Gutierrez was quickly apprehended and arrested in connection with the Tucson Police Department’s homicide. Today, Pima County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives arrested Roque Gutierrez in connection with the murder of 37-year-old Saul Saucedo-Zavala. This arrest follows an extensive collaborative investigation between the two agencies. Roque Gutierrez was charged with an additional count of first degree murder.

February 20, 2017 Today, at approximately 12:00 p.m., San Xavier District deputies responded to the 10400 block of South Epperson Lane for a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found 37-year-old Saul SaucedoZavala with gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately began rendering aid, using their Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), until Rural Metro Fire Department arrived and took over treating Mr. Saucedo-Zavala. Despite their efforts, Mr. Saucedo-Zavala was pronounced deceased on scene. The Homicide Unit responded and took over the investigation. The suspect is described as:  Hispanic man in his 30’s  Last seen wearing a gray baseball hat and gray shirt  Driving a small gray pickup. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
