10/14/13 Jacob Sciandra U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member
Jacob Sciandra is this week's Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Jacob is a member of the U13/U14 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2013-2014 season. Jacob has been playing as long as he can remember, citing that he’s been playing since he could walk. He moved down from Rochester, NY to Cary, NC in 2009. At that time, Jacob joined the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) and has been at the club ever since. He most recently played for the CASL Chelsea FC Pre-Academy Team in 2012-2013. Sciandra recognizes this year’s 13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Coach, Greg Shields, as the coach with the biggest influence on him as a player. “His playing background is incredible and he’s been very supportive of me and my abilities over the last few years. He genuinely cares about the development of his players and he knows first hand what it takes to play at the highest level,” said Jacob.
Some of Sciandra’s biggest soccer accomplishments in his young career have been being the starting central midfielder for CASL’s U13 Elite Black Team that won the NCYSA State Cup in 2012, as well as playing on last year’s U14 Academy Team. As far as memorable soccer experiences, Jacob has quite a few fond memories. He recalls getting Michael Bradley to sign his cleats and meeting Clint Dempsey when the USMNT came to train at WakeMed Soccer Park a couple of years ago. “I have also had lots of great soccer experiences at Carolina RailHawks soccer games. In particular, it was amazing to see the RailHawks beat the LA Galaxy in the US Open Cup two year in a row,” said Sciandra. Unfortunately, Jacob currently has a stress fracture in his knee that has prevented hi m from playing so far this season. His short-term goal is to fully recover from the injury by the end of the year so that he can play in the second half of the season. His long term goal is to earn an invitation into a youth national team camp and to ultimately play professional y in the MLS. In regards to this year’s 13/14 Academy Team, Jacob has set high goals for the group. “I’d like to help lead the team to at least a top two finish in the league and then onto a national championship,” he said. Jacob holds the Capital Area RailHawks Academy in high regard. “The Capital Area RailHawks represents an amazing opportunity and honor to play at the highest level of youth soccer in the US. It’s also an honor to wear the badge and colors of the RailHawks Pro Team and have the opportunity to be coached by some of the best youth coaches in the world,” said Sciandra. Best of luck to Jacob this year and the U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
