Matt Gianfortone is this week's Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Matt is a member of the U18 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2014-2015 season. Matt started playing soccer at the age of 4. In the off season of outdoor soccer, he started playing indoor at the Soccer Dome Advanced Training Program. At age 9, Matt made the CASL YTS team and took his indoor training to Next Level Academy where he continued to build his technical skills. Gianfortone recalls, "One of my proudest accomplishments is when my indoor team won the National Championship. It was fun and a huge learning experience." Matt played CASL Elite from U11, including the U14 Chelsea Pre Academy team, 16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy and currently, the 18 Capital Area RailHawks Academy. Gianfortone states, "I have played with a great group of players during the years, making a ton of friends with some incredible memories." Matt also recalls, traveling with his 16 Academy team to Brazil to train and compete against Fluminense FC and Desportivo FC as another unforgettable learning experience. According to Gianfortone, "Some of my biggest coaching influences have been Scott Schweitzer and Damon Nahas from Next Level Academy, along with John Bradford and Carlos Somoano from CASL and CA RailHawks Academy. I feel lucky to have trained and developed my skills under these coaches." "My short term goal is to be part of this group of players and continue to work hard towards my long term goal of playing soccer in college and thereafter. I am thrilled to have verbally committed to play soccer at UNCW in the fall of 2015. I plan to be ready to play at that next level," said Matt. "My goal for the 18 Academy team is to give 100%, work hard and be the best we can be! Working hard as a team will hopefully win games and earn the chance to advance to Academy playoffs and National finals." he says. Matt commented on what the Capital Area RailHawks means to him. "Playing for the Capital Area RailHawks Academy is a huge honor. I am grateful for the opportunity to be on this team and compete against the best players in the country." Best of luck to Matt this year and the U17/18 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
