1:1 Chromebook Initiative To Enhance Notre Dame High School's Curriculum & Instruction January 2016 Dear ND Students and Families: Notre Dame has been utilizing the technology learning management platform known as Google Apps for Education for the past six years. This free, online suite of tools centralizes all of our technology under one school-managed domain. It is highly interactive and encourages collaboration. Six years ago we started with Gmail Accounts and this past year we moved to Google Classroom. The next step in our innovative plan to improve teaching and learning will be a 1:1 environment using Chromebooks. This will enable all students and teachers to realize the full benefit of Google Apps for Education. The Chromebook is specifically designed to deliver this primary means of communication and curriculum to the students. Furthermore, Google Apps are continually improving and go hand-inhand with the Chromebook device. What are the educational advantages to a 1:1 program?         

1:1 Allows all students to have a consistent technology platform 1:1 Allows teachers to prepare lessons enhanced by technology 1:1 Facilitates the “flipped” model of learning outside of the classroom 1:1 Promotes the school’s ability to deliver educational content to all students equally 1:1 Allows considerable savings in the purchase and utilization of e-textbooks 1:1 Allows management software to instantly push out material to all our students at one time without the need to download additional software 1:1 Provides more time teaching and less time troubleshooting technology 1:1 Continues building an atmosphere of collaboration and innovation 1:1 Enables ND students who are entering from schools that had a 1:1 program to continue

Chromebooks will be purchased by families and distributed by Notre Dame at the start of the 2016-17 school year. The cost of the device with a three-year warranty will be approximately $300.00. The Chromebook must be purchased through Notre Dame. Personal devices cannot be used as a substitute for the ND Chromebook because a management console program needs to be installed on each device. As you can see from the information in this letter, the decision to move to a 1:1 Chromebook school is really a natural progression in our use of Google Apps for Education. We have spent a great deal of time researching the device and strongly believe that the Chromebook will enhance Notre Dame High School’s curriculum and instruction. Additional information will be shared with you relating to the purchasing of the device from Notre Dame High School in the coming months. You will also find with this letter, a cost analysis of the cost of textbooks and E-textbooks. We are very excited about this decision and look forward to the next phase of instructional technology at Notre Dame! Sincerely,

Mr. Robert F. Curis President
