Academic Final Qualifier Eligible for athletics aid, practice, and competition in their first year of residency. High school graduate who meets the following academic qualifications: -Minimum core course GPA based on sliding scale -Minimum test score based on sliding scale -16 core courses: -4 English -3 mathematics -2 science -1 additional English, mathematics, or natural science -2 social science -4 additional in any category above -10 of the required 16 core courses must be completed before the start of their 7th semester and are locked in -7 of the 10 required before the start of their 7th semester must include English, mathematics, and science
Academic Redshirt Eligible for athletics aid and practice, but not competition in their first year of residency. High school graduate who does not meet the GPA or test score requirement to be a qualifier but meets the GPA or test score requirements to be an academic redshirt (the 10 core courses by the beginning of the 7th semester does not apply to academic redshirts). Must pass 9 semester hours in first full term to be eligible for practice in the subsequent term.
Academic Final Nonqualifier Not eligible for athletics aid, practice, or competition in their first year of residency. Student who has not yet graduated from high school or did present the core-curriculum GPA and/or test score required to be a qualifier or academic redshirt.
International PSAs whose initial eligibility certification is based entirely on international credentials are not subject to the 10/16/7 rule.

PSAs must complete their core-curriculum requirements not later than the high school graduation date of the PSAs class or the international equivalent as specified in the NCAA Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility. Note: Exception for international PSAs whose prescribed educational path is based on a leaving examination.

PSAs who graduate on time are permitted to use one (1) core course after high school graduation to satisfy core course requirements, provided the additional core course is completed no later than the academic year following the PSAs graduation date.
4)
College courses may be used to satisfy core course requirements provided they are accepted by the high school, are accepted for all students, meet core course requirements, and are placed on the high school transcript.

Courses that receive a pass/fail grade may be used to satisfy core course requirements but the lowest passing grade will be applied to that course.
6)
A repeated course may only be used once to satisfy core course requirements and the best grade shall be used.
7)
Test scores must be achieved prior to registering for a minimum full-time program of studies and attending classes in a regular term of an academic year at a collegiate institution.
8)
Nonqualifiers are only permitted three (3) seasons of eligibility but can regain their fourth (4th) season of eligibility if they have completed 80 percent of their designated degree program by the beginning of their fifth (5th) academic year.
9)
Nonqualifiers in their first year of residency are not permitted to compete on institutional club teams or outside teams.

Nontraditional course (taught via internet, distance learning, independent study, individualized instruction, correspondence, and courses taught by similar means may be used to satisfy core course requirements provided all of the following are met: (a) The course meets all requirements for a core course as defined in Bylaw 14.3.1.2; (b) The instructor and the student have ongoing access to one another for purposes of teaching, evaluating and providing assistance to the student throughout the duration of the course; (c) The instructor and the student have regular interaction with one another for purposes of teaching evaluating and providing assistance to the student throughout the duration of the course; (d) The student's work (e.g., exams, papers, assignments) is available for evaluation and validation; (e) Evaluation of the student's work is conducted by the appropriate academic authorities in accordance with the high school's established academic policies; (f) The course includes a defined time period for completion; and (g) The course is acceptable for any student and is placed on the high school transcript.
