The No. 60 Indiana men’s tennis team returns home for a pair of matches on Feb. 18 and 19. The Hoosiers faced then-No. 32 Louisville and then-No. 39 Middle Tennessee State on the road for their first road trip of the season on Feb. 10 and 11. IU will face Murray State on Saturday, Feb. 18, at noon before battling No. 69 Ball State on Sunday, Feb. 19, at noon. The Hoosiers will look to continue their winning ways at home during the spring season. IU is 4-0 at home with a pair of doubleheader sweeps on Jan. 21 and Jan. 28 in Bloomington.

SCOUTING MURRAY STATE The Racers opened the season on Feb. 10 against Indiana State and are 1-1 on the season. After falling to the Sycamores, 7-0, Murray State defeated Southern Indiana, 6-1, on Feb. 11. Fadi Zamjaoui is the Racers’ No. 1 singles player. He is 1-1 in dual matches this season and earned second team all-conference honors in 2004-05. He finished with an 11-9 overall singles mark last season. Mel Purcell is the head coach at Murray State. He is in his 10th season at the helm. The Hoosiers are 17-4 all-time against Murray State. IU has won the last 10 matches in the series dating back to the 1995 season. Last year, Indiana swept the Racers for the third straight campaign. Sophomore Michael McCarthy, senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and junior David Bubenicek earned victories in the match against Murray State last seasin at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

SCOUTING NO. 69 BALL STATE The Cardinals enter the match with IU at 7-3. BSU will play Purdue on Feb. 17 before facing the Hoosiers. Ball State is ranked 69th in the Feb. 14 Fila ITA Rankings. Ball State owns victories over Wright State, Dayton, IUPUI, Indianapolis, No. 75 Michigan State, Indiana State and Valparaiso. The Cardinals completed a sweep of Indiana State, 5-2, and Valparaiso, 7-0, on Feb. 11. All three of BSU’s losses have come at the hands of ranked Big Ten foes. The Cardinals lost to then-No. 4 Illinois, then-No. 51 Northwestern and then-No. 48 Michigan. Matt Baccarani is the Cardinals’ No. 1 singles player. On the year, he is 14-4 overall, including a 4-1 ledger during the spring. Patrick Thompson and Jan Polhamus both have double-digit victories for the Cardinals with 10 and 11 wins, respectively. Baccarani and Joe Epkey team to form the Cardinals’ top doubles duo. They are 9-1 overall and 5-0 in dual matches. The Cardinals are coached by Bill Richards, who is in his 34th year at the helm. During his tenure, Ball State has a record of 507-271. Indiana owns a 36-8 all-time mark against Ball State. After winning nine straight against the in-state foe from 1996 though 2004, IU suffered a defeat to the Cardinals, 4-3, in Muncie, Ind., last season. Sophomore Michael McCarthy and junior David Bubenicek both earned victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions last season against BSU.

CLOSING IN ON 300 With the Hoosiers’ four victories during the 2006 dual-match season, Indiana head coach Ken Hydinger is only three wins away from eclipsing the 300 mark at IU. During his 21 years at the helm of the Hoosier program, Hydinger has a 297217-1 record.

He will join a group of elite Hoosier coaches to surpass the 300-win barrier. In the history of IU Athletics, seven coaches have amassed 300 or more victories. Ironically enough, the two winningest current head coaches at IU are with the tennis program in Hydinger and women’s tennis head coach Lin Loring, who has 625 wins. Here is a look at the head coaches that have 300 wins at IU: HEAD COACH (SPORT) Bob Morgan (Baseball) Bob Knight (Men’s Basketball) Lin Loring (Women’s Tennis) Jerry Yeagley (Men’s Soccer) Diane Stephenson (Softball) Ernie Andrews (Baseball) Branch McCracken (Men’s Basketball)

HOLDING DOWN THE TOP Senior Dmytro Ishtuganov has more than accepted his role as Indiana’s No.1 singles player - he has flourished in it. After spending the first two seasons at IU playing sparingly in singles and being more of a doubles specialist, Ishtuganov is leading the way for Indiana during his final campaign. He is 5-1 in dual matches at the No. 1 singles potion. Ishtuganov’s lone loss on the 2006 spring season came at the hands of No. 97 Marco Born from Middle Tennessee State. Against Louisville on Feb. 10, Ishtuganov defeated Damar Johnson in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, to run his early season winning streak to five before falling to Born. Johnson was ranked No. 38 in the preseason ITA poll, but when the spring rankings came out, he was not ranked due to a lack of information. As a sophomore and junior in 2004 and 2005, respectively, the Kiev, Ukraine native racked up 20-plus doubles victories in each season. He saw his most extensive time in the lineup last season, going 12-7 overall and 6-3 in dual matches. His senior season has been a much different story. He opened the spring season with wins at the No. 1 singles position in leading IU to a pair of doubleheader sweeps. He is 12-5 overall and his 12 singles victories are a team high. Ishtuganov has continued his strong doubles play. He finished the fall season ranked ninth in the Midwest Region with fellow classmate Neil Kenner. He has 10 combined doubles victories this season, which are the most on the squad.

DIFFERENT COMBINATION, SAME RESULTS Since dropping two doubles matches and the doubles point to Butler in the season opener, Indiana head coach Ken Hydinger has used six different double team combinations throughout the lineup. The results have been evident with the Hoosiers going 11-4 in doubles over that stretch. The list of different combinations includes senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and Dara McLoughlin at the No. 1 position, freshman Peter Antons and junior David Bubenicek at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, senior Neil Kenner and redshirt freshman Mak Kendall at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, Antons and McLoughlin at the No. 3 spot, Bubenicek and sophomore Michael McCarthy at the No. 1 position and Kendall and McCarthy in the No. 3 slot. In four of the five matches since the season opener the Hoosiers have won the doubles point.

SPRING ADDITIONS The Hoosiers added junior Arnaud Roussel and freshman Tetta Oyama to the roster for the spring season. The pair adds more international flare to an already diverse IU roster. Roussel is a native of Bordeaux, France, while Oyama is from Shizuoka, Japan.

Roussel competed in the Hoosiers’ season-opening doubleheader sweep of Butler and Bradley. He won at the No. 6 singles position against the Bulldogs before winning in straight sets against the Braves at No. 5. Roussel transferred to Indiana after spending two and a half seasons at Mississippi State. He amassed an 11-11 record during those seasons with the Bulldogs. Roussel saw his most extensive action during his freshman campaign in which he played at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. He rallied from a set down in Mississippi State’s first round NCAA Tournament victory over Wake Forest to clinch the match in 2004. The Frenchman was the junior champion of the Aquitanie Region in France and lists Pete Sampras and Juan-Carlos Ferrero as his favorite tennis players. Oyama was one of the top junior players in Japan. The freshman ranked as high as No. 3 in junior singles and No. 2 in junior doubles during the 2003 season in his native country. In 2005, he ranked as high as No. 187 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Combined Junior Rankings, which combines a player’s performance in doubles and singles while promoting doubles play junior players. He captured the singles title at the Hong Kong ITF Junior Tournament in January 2005. Oyama was a doubles finalist at the Neway International Junior Championships in January 2005 and at the China International Junior Championships in September 2004. He also advanced to the semifinals in singles at the 2005 BKSP International Junior Championships. Oyama lists Carlos Moya, Gustavo Kuerten and Andre Agassi as his favorite tennis players.

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND The Hoosiers dug themselves a hole against defending Horizon League Champion Butler on Jan. 21. After dropping the doubles point, IU dropped the first set in four of the six singles matches putting the possibility of a victory in jeopardy. Despite the early deficit, the Hoosiers demonstrated mental toughness and composure to rally and claim five of the six singles matches in route in a 5-2 victory. In fact, IU won all four singles matches that went to three sets. Senior Dmytro Ishtuganov got the ball rolling as he clinched the first of the four, three-set victories for the Hoosiers at No. 1 singles. Junior Arnaud Roussell and sophomore Michael McCarthy each claimed threeset victories, while senior Neil Kenner clinched the victory with a threeset win at No. 3 singles.

FIRST TIMES ARE SPECIAL Two doubles teams and a pair of singles competitors picked up their first wins as Hoosiers during the opening doubleheader of the season. Redshirt freshman Mak Kendall won his first collegiate match as he defeated Bradley’s Alex Roby in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 6 singles position. Junior Arnaud Roussel, who made his Hoosier debut, picked up his first win in the cream and crimson, with a three-set battle against Butler’s Scott Newmark at the No. 6 slot. In the afternoon match against Bradley, head coach Ken Hydinger shook up the doubles spots and pitted a pair of teams that had never played together. That did little to effect the Hoosiers as the teams of senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and sophomore Dara McLoughlin won at the No. 1 position and Kendall along with sophomore Michael McCarthy clinched the doubles point with a win at the No. 3 spot.

HOOSIERS RANKED 60TH Indiana is ranked 60th nationally in the Feb. 14 Fila College Tennis Rankings announced the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In 2005, the Hoosiers were ranked as high as No. 54 before finishing the season No. 58 in the ITA poll. The Hoosiers will have 12 opponents on their 2006 schedule that are ranked in the Fila Top 75 rankings. Indiana still has No. 3 Illinois, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 31 Notre Dame, No. 36 Minnesota, No. 42 Michigan, No. 51 Northwestern, No. 61 Penn State, No. 69 Ball State, No. 71 Purdue and No. 75 Michigan State on the schedule. On Feb. 10 and 11, the Hoosiers played thenNo. 32 Louisville and then-No. 39 Middle Tennessee State, respectively.

Indiana returns a duo of senior leaders this season in Neil Kenner and Dmytro Ishtuganov. Both have enjoyed success during their Hoosier careers and are making an impact in 2005-06. Indiana must replace the graduation of its top two singles players from a season ago. Kenner saw the most action at No. 3 for the Hoosiers last season. He finished the year with an 11-9 mark overall, including an 8-8 record in dual matches. This season, Kenner is 8-4 in singles, playing at the No. 3 position. He is also tied with Ishtuganov for the team lead in doubles victories with seven. Ishtuganov has been a vital part of the Hoosiers' doubles contingent over the past two seasons. He has won 20-plus matches in doubles in 2003-04 and 2004-05. He played up and down the line up last season, making a stop at every singles position with the exception of No. 1. He finished with a 6-3 dual match record in winning 12 singles matches. In 2005-06, Ishtuganov moved to the No. 1 singles position and is 4-0 at the spot while compling an overall mark of 11-4. His 11 singles victories and seven doubles wins top the Hoosiers.

REGIONAL SINGLES AND DOUBLES RANKINGS The Hoosiers had a pair of singles players and a doubles team ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Midwest Region Rankings. Senior Dmytro Ishtuganov and sophomore Dara McLoughlin were ranked 23rd and 28th, respectively, in the 30-player singles poll, while the duo of seniors Neil Kenner and Ishtuganov came in the 15-team doubles rankings at No. 9. The Hoosiers are one of eight teams with multiple individuals ranked among the top 30 in the Midwest. Of those eight teams, six are from the Big Ten Conference.

ISHTUGANOV TO THE FINALS Senior Dmytro Ishtuganov had an impressive run through the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championship, Nov. 11-14. As the 13th seed, Ishtuganov advanced through the 64-player main draw before falling in a tight threeset championship match. Along his road to the finals, the Kiev, Ukraine native disposed of Ohio State's Bryan Koniecko, who was ranked 120th nationally, in straight sets. Koniecko is ranked 10th in the Midwest Region Rankings. Ishtuganov fin-
