FOUR SELECTED FOR NATIONALS: • Four Roadrunners were selected to compete at nationals: • Jon Clarke (100m, 200m) • Kirk Harvey (3000m steeplechase) • Nick Kadlec (10000m) • Breanna Hemming (1500m) HARVEY WINS RMAC STEEPLECHASE: • Harvey won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the RMAC championships. • Other all-RMAC performers included: Clarke (1st team, 200m; 2nd team, 100m), Hemming (2nd team, 800m, 1500m), Justin Jimmerson (2nd team, 200m), Ramon Robinson (3rd team, triple jump).
of 54 competitors and second among Division II runners at the meet. • It converted to 3:50.04 for altitude, well under the provisional standard of 3:53.00. JOHNSTON QUALIFIES IN GOLDEN: • Amy Johnston ran the team’s first provisional qualifying time of the season on March 29 at the Front Range Open. • Her time of 17:45.14 in the 5k converted to 17:10.19 for altitude, winning the race. • As a result, she was named RMAC track athlete of the week on April 2. FOUR BROKEN RECORDS AT CU: • Metro State broke four school records at the CU Invitational on April 12. RECORDS FALL AT AIR FORCE: • The Roadrunners broke or set seven school records at the Air Force Relays on April 5, including five relays records.
RECORDS, QUALIFIERS IN CALI: • Metro State had five provisional national qualifiers and six school records fall at the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational in California April 17-19. • Harvey qualified in both the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 1,500 meters and brok the steeplechase record at 8:53.86, less than a second from an automatic qualifying time. • Kadlec ran a provisional and broke a 31-year-old record in the 10k, running 30:05.65, the previous record of 30:11.16 set in 1983. • Clarke broke his own 100 meters record in 10.64 seconds. • Hemming ran provisionals in both the women’s 800 meters and 1,500, and broke her own school record in the 1,500 (4:25.69). • Evonna Ramirez broke the women’s steeplechase record at 11:23.77, topping the previous record of 11:36.77 set in 2009. • Belle Kiper broke her own long jump record with a jump of 5.66 meters.
Metro State History: • Metro State is in its eighth year with a Division II track program. • By only fielding track athletes and no field athletes, Metro State usually finishes towards the bottom of the RMAC with its highest finish coming in 2008 when the team placed sixth at the RMAC Championships. • However, the limit on athletes has not hampered the team’s competitiveness on a national level, as the team has sent at least one runner to nationals five of the past six years. • Metro State placed 16th at the NCAA Championships in 2009, highlighted by Anthony Luna’s individual championship in the 800 meters. He is currently Metro State’s only national champion. • Nine Metro State male athletes have been named All-America, and last year, the first two female athletes earned All-America in Breanna Hemming and Janelle Lincks. • Metro State’s women’s team had its first national qualifier in 2012 when Kylee Schuler competed in the 10k. • Last year, Hemming (1500m) and Lincks (1500m, 5k) became the second and third female athletes to qualify.
HARVEY QUALIFIES AT CU: • Harvey ran a provisional qualifying time in the 1500 meters on April 12 at the CU Invitational. • Harvey’s time of 3:55.66 placed him eighth out
preSeason Outlook: • The men’s team returns 13 runners from last season and the women’s team brings back seven from a year ago.
