Day 24: Fate or Free Will? Now that we’ve created a foundation of Awakening, we’re ready to explore some of the more advanced and more powerful aspects of spirituality. In particular, once the Great Lie has been exposed and you know the difference between You (awareness) and you (the ego-mind, the body, the personality, etc.), the very foundations of your belief systems need to shift to accommodate this higher truth. So is everything predestined and fated, or do we really have free will and meaningful choices? This is one of the most profound and most important questions asked over the centuries by philosophers, spiritual seekers, and religious scholars. In fact, one could make an argument that it is in fact the #1 most profound and most important question that we can ask ourselves. During my spiritual journey, my understanding of this question - and its various answers - has evolved and grown immensely. What I've found is that there's not just one clear answer – instead, the answer is much more complex that indicated and at first glance and includes paradox, contradiction, and conflicting truths. And while this series endeavors to provide a clear, concise, and powerful revealing of the underlying truth of reality, knowing the simple answer – fate or free will – is not satisfying or complete, because any simple answer presented without fully understanding the context of the question can never be satisfying or complete. And like many of the most important and transformative truths, the discovery was made not by introducing new knowledge or information, but rather by challenging certain basic – even axiomatic assumptions about life, truth, and spirit. The discovery resulted not from expanding knowledge, but rather from the willingness to be wrong about assumptions that most of us consider so obviously true that we never even think about them or question them.
