THE ROAD AHEAD The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball continues conference play this week with two matches. The Owls will host Assumption College Tuesday night at Pelz Gymnasium before traveling to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley University. A LOOK BACK Southern Connecticut went 0-2 last week in Northeast-10 Conference play. On Tuesday, the Owls were defeated by the College of Saint Rose in straight sets before dropping a tough five-set thriller to Le Moyne College on Saturday. ALL-TIME VERSUS ASSUMPTION Southern Connecticut holds an 8-5 edge in the all-time series over the Greyhounds. ALL-TIME VERSUS BENTLEY The Falcons lead the all-time series against Southern Connecticut, 19-2. WHO RANKS WHERE? Sophomore Nicole Hauser continues to lead the Owls’ offense with a combined total of 132 kills (2.64 k/s). Also leading the Owls’ offense is junior Taylor Carlson with 203 assists. Defensively, Morgan Carman ranks first on the team in digs (214) while sophomore Briauna Tutwiler leads the team in blocks (26). ATTACK FROM THE OUTSIDE Hauser recorded her third career triple-double in the five set thriller at home against Le Moyne. The sophomore finished the day with a career-high 22 kills to go along with a .381 hitting percentage, and also tallied 11 assists and 12 digs. FORD BLOCKS THE WAY HOME Leading the Owls on the net last week in block was sophomore Faith Ford. She finished the week with a team-high total of five blocks. She is currently ranked second on the team in blocks with 24. MS. 1,000 Carman went over the 1,000 dig mark for her career during the match against Le Moyne on Saturday. She now has 1,021 in her career.

DOUBLE TROUBLE Alexandria Jurgens posted her first career double-double (10 kills and 12 digs) in the 3-0 win against Holy Family. Nicole Hauser recorded her first double-double of the season for the Owls with a 20 kill and 15 assist performance against Nyack. Hauser also registered her second double-double of the season against Dowling College. NORTHEAST-10 WEEKLY HONORS Alexandria Jurgens was named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week as well as CT Army National Guard/SCSU Athlete of Week back on Set. 22. Morgan Carman and Nicole Hauser were both selected to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll back on Sept. 8th. O’CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN Juniors Morgan Carman and Kelly Gunneson will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall. IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL The Owls were selected to finish 10th according to the Northeast-10 Conference coaches’ poll. LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR The Owls posted their sixth consecutive winning season during the 2013 campaign and closed the year with 17 wins. SCSU also narrowly missed out on a bid to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. EIGHT IS GREAT The Owls have eight student-athletes returning from last year’s team, includingMorgan Carman, Taylor Carlson, Kelly Gunneson and Nicole Hauser, all of whom have seen time as starters in their careers. OWLS WELCOME NINE NEWCOMERS The Owls welcome 10 student-athletes to the team this year: Carly Balskus, Jasmin Barrett, Emily Carver, Alexandria Jurgens, Taylor Macdowell, Alexandra Nimz, Alisha Noble, Haley Samuelson, Sean Taylor and Briauna Tutwiler. GUNNESON NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM Kelly Gunneson was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom and on the court last fall. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: participated

in at least half of the team’s competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; achieved a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. MCVEY EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS Senior Lauren McVey received year-end honors from the Northeast-10 Conference, as voted on by the league’s coaches. McVey was named to the Third-Team for the second consecutive season. ON DECK The Owls are back in action on Oct. 14 when the team hosts Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 showdown at Pelz Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
