THE WEEK AHEAD After picking up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Southern Connecticut State University women’s volleyball team returns to the court to play four games this week. The Owls will first take on Queens College (N.Y.) on Tuesday evening before returning home on Thursday for their home opener against Georgian Court. Southern Conn. will wrap up the week with a home tri-match on Saturday against Bloomfield College and West Chester Univ. ALL-TIME VS. QUEENS (N.Y.) The all-time series between Southern Conn. and Queens College is tied at 6-6. ALL-TIME VS. GEORGIAN COURT Southern Conn. leads the all-time series over the Knights 4-2. ALL-TIME VS. BLOOMFIELD Southern Conn. remains undefeated, 6-0, against Bloomfield in the all-time series. ALL-TIME VS. WEST CHESTER UNIV. This will be the first time Southern Conn. and West Chester Univ. will face each other in a non-conference battle. A QUICK LOOK BACK Southern Conn. opened week one with a 1-3 record while picking up its first win of the 2015 season against Saint Anselm. At the Dowling Tournament, the Owls went 0-2 with back-to-back 3-0 losses to Post University and Dowling College. On Saturday at the Long Island Invitational, Southern Conn. defeated the Hawks, 3-1, but lost to NYIT in five sets, 3-2. JADUS LEADS THE WAY Freshman Leanna Jadus recorded a stellar week for the Owls as she led the team in kills (2.60 k/s) and service aces (0.93 sa/s). She recorded her first career double-double against Saint Anselm with 16 kills and 17 digs. On Saturday, Jadus picked up her first career triple double against NYIT with 16 kills, 11 service aces and 13 digs. CARMAN WITH THE DIG On the defensive side, senior Morgan Carman led the team with 66 digs (4.40 d/s), which makes her third in the

Northeast-10 Conference. BLOCKING THE WAY HOME Also on the defensive side, sophomore Briauna Tutwiler chipped in with 20 blocks while recording a career-high nine blocks against Saint Anselm. With those stats, she currently leads the league in blocks averaging 1.33 a game. LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR Southern Connecticut finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 7-22 and a conference record of 3-11. O’CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN For the second year in a row, seniors Morgan Carman and Kelly Gunneson will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall. RETURNING TO THE COURT The Owls have 14 student-athletes returning from last year’s team, including Morgan Carman, Jasmin Barrett, Taylor Carlson, Kelly Gunneson, Sean Taylor, Alexandra Nimz, Carly Balskus, Alexandria Jurgens, Nicole Hauser, Taylor Flowers, Faith Ford, Briauna Tutwiler, Haley Samuelson and Taylor MacDowell. OWLS WELCOME FIVE NEWCOMERS The Owls welcome five student-athletes to the team this year: Bridgette Walsh, Jennifer Dawson, Leanna Jadus, Jessica Schmitz and Janae Owen. Saint Michael’s - 26 GUNNESON AND HAUSER EARN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Kelly Gunneson and Nicole Hauser were two out of 37 SCSU student-athletes that were named to the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement award for the 2014-15 academic year. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year. GUNNESON INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL MATH HONOR SOCIETY Last fall, Kelly Gunneson was inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Math Honor Society. GUNNESON NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM Senior Kelly Gunneson was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom and on the court last fall. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: participated in at least half of the team’s competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; achieved a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. ON DECK The Owls return to action on Sept. 16 as the team welcomes Pace University to Pelz Gymnasium. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
