A Look at the Brewers

The Vassar College women’s volleyball team welcomes in Williams College for a non-conference match in Kenyon Hall. The Brewers are coming off a weekend that saw them sweep a pair of matches from University of New England and Lehman College. Monday afternoon freshman Devan Gallagher was named as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after pacing the Brewers with 27 kills last week, while accumulating three kills per set. VC is out to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2012, a season that the Brewers went 20-11. Vassar is 5-18 against Williams all-time, but has pushed the Ephs to at least four sets in five of their last six meetings. Junior Gabby Miller had a very strong start to the season, finishing with 20 kills, 12 service aces, 29 digs and 10 total blocks. Newcomer Bria Corham has chalked up 19 terminations, and sophomore Alex Sams leads the team with a .233 hitting clip.

A Look at THE Ephs

Due to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rules, the Ephs will just now get their season underway with Wednesday night’s match with the Brewers. Williams is coming off a season that saw them earn a spot into the NCAA Tournament, making the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fifth time in program history. Reigning regional player of the year Tori Jasuta is back to anchor the offense for the Ephs, while now senior Ryan Farley is also back to lead run the team at the setter position. The Ephs did lose second-leading hitter Raea Rasmussen, but Katherine Lane is back in the middle for Williams after posting 238 kills and a team-leading 81 rejections. Catherine Egan also added 210 kills from the outside hitter spot, while three returning Ephs posted over 200 digs last season, led by the 408 from Jasuta. Williams finished with a hitting percentage as a team of .243, averaging over two aces per set a year ago.

BREWER BIO on ... Chloe Hallum Hallum, a libero from Olympia, Washington, has been the heart and soul of the Vassar backline over the last four seasons. A fiery competitor, Hallum is a dig machine for the Brewers, as he knowledge and ability to keep the ball alive has helped her be one of the best liberos in school history. Hallum came into the season second on the all-time dig mark, and is within reach of the career digs record at Vassar College. Hallum is a captain this season as a senior, and her heart and emotion are evident with every point the Brewers score. Hallum comes into the day with 1,559 career digs, trailing Amanda Hsuing and her 2,070 for her career. Hallum has been named as an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention player the last three seasons, and also earned All-Liberty League Tournament Team honors as a sophomore.
