The College of New Jersey baseball team is graduating seven seniors who have each contributed to the rich history and tradition of the Lions’ baseball program. They have racked up 81 wins over the past four seasons, qualifying for the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs each year. This season has been their best as the Lions have posted a record of 26-8 and currently tied for second in the conference standings. The College of New Jersey would like to thank each senior for their dedication to the program and excellence on the field.
#4 John Rizzi - Long Valley, NJ/Watchung Hills Rizzi has enjoyed a spectacular career for TCNJ. As a sophomore, Rizzi earned All-NJAC First Team and Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team honors. He also became only the second Lion in program history to be awarded Division III ABCA/Rawlings GoldGlove award as an outfielder. Last season, Rizzi was an All-NJAC Second Team honoree and tied for the NJAC lead in stolen bases. As a senior, Rizzi currently leads the conference in runs scored (47) and stolen bases (34). During his career at TCNJ, Rizzi has left his mark with the Lions’ baseball program. He ranks second all-time in stolen bases with 87, and currently 15th all-time in runs scored with 142. Rizzi also ranks amongst the all-time leaders in career hits (147), games played (133), doubles (29), and at bats (471). He also ranks in the single-season leaders in hit by pitches in his sophomore (11), junior (14), and senior (10) years. Rizzi is a member of the Dean’s List and an CoSIDA Academic All-American nominee. John will graduate with a degree in finance. Year 2013.... 2014.... 2015.... 2016.... TOTAL...

#6 Eric Teesdale - Stratford, NJ/Sterling Teesdale has compiled a 6-2 record on the mound since converting to being a full-time pitcher in 2015 from middle infielder. As a starter this season, Teesdale is 3-2 with a 3.00 earned run average. He picked up his first win and complete-game shutout in a 9-0 victory over Westfield State. Teesdale also recorded two conference wins, defeating Rowan University and blanking RutgersCamden over eight innings. As a junior, Teesdale assumed the closer role, making six appearances out of the bullpen. He went 3-1 with a save, posting a miniscule 0.79 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. Teesdale showcased his durability in a crucial NJAC win over Montclair State, tossing four innings of shutout relief to earn a 6-5 win in 13 innings. #9 Matt Facas - Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park Facas has been a dependable backstop for the Lions the past four seasons. He has played in 75 games, starting 60 behind home plate. Facas has compiled 54 hits in his career, drove in 36, and scored 23 runs. As a freshman, Facas registered his first collegiate hits against Muhlenberg College. As a sophomore against the Mules, Facas had one of his best offensive performances, going 3-for6 with three RBI and a two runs scored. He belted his first career home run as a junior at Haverford College. In 2016, Facas drove in a career-high four runs against Roger Williams and homered for the first time at George Ackerman Park against FDU-Florham. As a catcher, he racked up 268 putouts, 33 assists, and threw out 14 runners attempting to steal. A member of the Dean’s List, Matt also worked in the athletic training room at TCNJ and will graduate with a degree in health and exercise science. Year 2013.... 2014.... 2015.... 2016.... TOTAL...

#18 Joe DiLorenzo - West Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep DiLorenzo has appeared in 30 games as a left-handed reliever for the Lions. He owns a 2-1 career record along with a save, striking out 37 batters in 53.1 innings pitched. DiLorenzo made his collegiate debut against Webster University, pitching a scoreless inning and striking out two. Later that season, he tossed two shutout innings in a key victory over Rutgers-Camden. DiLorenzo picked up his first collegiate win as a sophomore against Gwynedd-Mercy, throwing two scoreless innings in a 4-3 win. He made a career-high 10 appearances in 2015, posting a 3.49 ERA in 28.1 innings pitched. DiLorenzo registered a conference win over NJCU, pitching 4.1 innings of relief and allowing just one earned run. He earned his first save five days later at Rutgers-Camden. As a senior, DiLorenzo has made nine appearances, contributing to eight wins. He struck out three in two innings against Ursinus College and matched those numbers in a win over Immaculata. #27 Garen Turner - Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley
Turner has been an offensive force for the Lions the past four seasons. He has compiled 155 hits, 30 doubles, nine triples, and nine home runs. Turner saved his best for his senior season, posting career highs in batting average (.321), hits (43), runs (25), RBI (41) and stolen bases (8). In an NJAC win over Rutgers-Camden, he registered his career 100th run batted in when he drilled a grand slam home run to left field. As a freshman, Turner singled in his first collegiate game against Immaculata and slugged his first round-tripper at home against Rutgers-Newark. As a sophomore, he knocked in four runs against Suffolk. In 2015, Turner went on a run-producing tear when he drove in 11 runs over three NJAC games. This season, Turner has driven in four runs on three occasions, and produced multiple RBI in 10 games. A member of the Dean’s List, Turner will graduate with a degree in business. #35 Steven Volpe - Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional Volpe opened his collegiate career by tying a program record of tossing 23 consecutive scoreless innings and never looked back. He has posted a 14-6 record over four years as a starter. In his first career start, Volpe threw a complete-game shutout, striking out six in defeating Worcester State, 3-0. He won NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week three times and was named to the 2013 NJCBA Division II/III All-Rookie Team. Volpe went 4-1 as a sophomore and highlighted his junior season with a complete-game, 5-1 playoff win over Rowan. As a senior, Uncle Salty has been terrific. He is currently 5-1 with a 2.83 ERA, including three complete games. Perhaps his best performance resulted in a no-decision as he limited Kean to one unearned over 10 innings pitched. Steven is a TCNJ Scholar-Athlete, a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and will graduate with a degree in history secondary education. Year 2013.... 2014.... 2015.... 2016.... #49 Patrick Roberts - Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough Roberts is one of the best pure hitters to come through the storied Lions baseball program. A career .336 hitter, Roberts is enjoying an exceptional season season, hitting .398 with six home runs and 40 RBI. In his first collegiate at bat, Roberts delivered a pinch-hit single against Wheaton College. He drilled his first career homer as a rookie at Widener University. Roberts hit .290 as a sophomore and enjoyed his best day in a doubleheader at Muhlenberg, going 6-for-11 with 6 RBI, a double, and two triples. Roberts tied a program record as a junior, clouting three home runs in a single game at Haverford College. He was named to the 2015 All-NJAC First Team and ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic All-Region Third Team. For his career, Roberts has amassed 144 hits, scored 93 runs, and knocked in 95. He also possesses an outstanding arm from the outfield, compiling eight assists, while holding an unquantifiable number of baserunners from attempting to advance an extra base.
