2017 KWKW Parent Information TEAM GOALS 1) Have FUN!! 2) Provide each swimmer the opportunity to improve their swimming skills. 3) Promote good sportsmanship and develop team and community spirit. COACHING STAFF This year we are excited to bring back Head Coach Larry Hermes. As many of you know, Coach Larry comes to us with many years of coaching experience. For the last 12 years he has been coaching at Mayde Creek Aquatic Club, a year-round club that focuses on technique and speed. From 2007-2013 Coach Larry was the head coach of the Williamsburg Settlement Swim Team. During his time there, WSST won five division championships. This is Coach Larry’s third season with the Killer Whales. Coach Larry is an 8th grade science teacher at Morton Ranch Junior High. He is married to Lara, and together they have 4 children – Brendan, Zachary, Ryan, and Abigail. D We are excited to welcome Coach Matt to our coaching staff this year. Coach Matt is a senior this year and has been swimming at James E. Taylor High School for three seasons. He has been a proud Killerwhale for two seasons and has emerged as a leader on the team. Matt also participates in the National Honor Society at Taylor High School. Coach Matt explains, “I really can't wait to coach the kids and be the number one team in the division. Go Killer Whales!!” We are excited for the energy and fun that Coach Matt is bringing this season! We are also thrilled to welcome Coach Kailyn to our staff. Coach Kailyn is also a senior and varsity swimmer at Taylor High School. She has swam for Taylor for three seasons, and has spent the last two years on varsity. In addition, Coach Kailyn has spent her summers swimming for the Nottingham Country Tidalwaves and yearround at the Mayde Creek Aquatic Club (2012-2014). Coach Kailyn is also involved in Peer Assisted Leadership (PALs), National Honor Society, Best Buddies, and Habitat for Humanity. Coach Kailyn explains, “I am so excited to be joining your team this year and can't wait to see what this summer has in store!” 2017 KWKW BOARD

Any requests to swim another time must be approved by the coaching staff. Practice times: 7:30 – 8:15 AM 7 & 8 8:15 – 8:45 AM 6 & Under 8:45 – 9:45 AM 11 & Up 9:45 – 10:45 AM 9 & 10 PRACTICE INFORMATION During practices and meets, the wading pool is closed. Please keep small children away from the pool. Chick Fil-A Wednesdays are back this season! Sign up to eat dinner pool-side every Wednesday in May, during our evening practices (schedule included below). This is a fundraiser for our team, and is an easy and delicious way to provide your family dinner one night per week during evening swim practices. For insurance reasons, swimmers must be registered online 30 minutes before their practice time, the day of practice, in order to participate in swim practice. SWIM MEETS Swimmers must RSVP online to swim in meets; our software requires it. If your swimmer is not RSVP’d by 48 hours before the meet, they may not be allowed to swim. It is much easier to remove a swimmer from the roster than to add them to meet the schedule at the pool. We will only allow five swimmer additions per meet. Most morning meets begin at 8am and evening meets begin at 6pm. Warm ups at home meets will begin an hour before the scheduled meet time; warm ups at away meets will begin 30 minutes before scheduled start time. All home meets will be held at the KWKW pool (on Rose Hollow Drive in Kelliwood Gardens). Maps to away meets and other swim league updates are available on the West Houston Aquatic League website at: http://whale-public.sharepoint.com/ Parents must volunteer at a minimum of three regular meets throughout the season, plus the practice meet. Please make sure to volunteer at these meets or you will lose all or a portion or your $150 volunteer deposit. Volunteer opportunities can be found on our website and will be available for sign up beginning April 24th.
