Welcome to Highfield Church
Sunday 23 February 2014
After The Deluge
8am Holy Communion - Order One David Corfe
It’s not dealing with the initial crisis as much as living well through its aftermath that matters. Long after the cameras and the journalists have gone home, people in flooded areas will still be clearing up and working to restore their homes and livelihoods. The loss of your home as a safe place is a particularly personal grief. Pray for churches and church leaders, that they may be filled with deep wells of hope and peace from God to be able to share that with their neighbours and communities. Pray for peace and goodwill in communities, especially for our farmers - it’s a stressed profession at the best of times, with a high suicide rate, and these are some of the most challenging conditions imaginable. SoulSpace Residential 2014
We welcome the family and friends of Joshua Gordon being baptised at our 9.15am service and Jasmine and Zachary Mabey at our 11am service. Please pray for them, their parents and Godparents as they seek to bring them up in the Christian faith.
As many of you will know the Youth headed out on our annual residential, but what none of us knew, was that it was to be with a difference! We drove to Avon Tyrrell and set up for our weekend away, God was so present and Friday night was wonderful. However during the night the power went out and to cut a long story short we ended up completing our weekend in the church centre. We are so thankful for all your prayers, as peace reigned, the youth and parents cheerfully went with the flow and the fab team adapted and overcame! But most of all, God moved, young people encountered him and we had a wonderful time ‘away’ together. So a big thanks for all your prayers, to God for a wonderful time together and all those involved in making the weekend.
Children & Shine Today is an All Age at 9.15am because it is half term and the Shine leaders are having a well-earned break. There will be a crèche in the vestry for 2s and under but we hope that families will enjoy worshipping God together in the services. Next Week - 2 March This will be a Holy Communion service so please take your children straight to their groups (9.05-9.15am). Parents of children in Crèche, Wobblers and Tumblers will need to collect them at 10.10am and return to the service. Is yellow your colour, can you help? We are currently looking for volunteers to help in the Shine groups. It’s an opportunity to serve with fantastic people, learn, grow, give back and have fun as we share Jesus with the children. If you think yellow might be your colour then Sammy and Helen would love to talk to you.
Tower of Power Parents, the Tower of Power will be available during today's 9.15 service. Children are encouraged to use it as a space to sit and chat to Jesus, catch what he is saying to them, or just be quiet. Someone will be available to help them, you are welcome too.

SCM Basics Bank They are particularly short of tinned meat (cold and for heating), tinned vegetables and cook-in sauces. They fed almost 900 people again in January so continue to be very busy, hence the shortage of key food items. They also need more men's coats, t-shirts, jeans, socks and shoes; children's 3yrs+ and teenagers’ clothing in general. All donations gratefully received, just put them in the trolleys in the store room at the back of church.
Boxes On 30 March the Shine groups will be thinking about Joshua and the walls of Jericho. We would like to bring the story to life for the children and so, if you have any large cardboard boxes (shoe box size as a minimum) then we would love to have them. Please bring them on Sundays and hand them in to Sammy, Helen or the Explorers team. Thank you.
