the Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program (CFIP) and Tom Jobe for his work on our scholarship program. It was mentioned at this meeting that approximately 20 members, nationwide, resigned after the change in membership qualifications, but we gained approximately a couple of hundred new members. Our guest speaker for this evening was Lt Col Robert Belwood, commander of the 181st Airlift Squadron, 136th Group, Carswell Field, Fort Worth, Texas. The squadron is comprised of eight C-130H aircraft and 145 crewmembers who maintain readiness to support state,
regional, national, and global operations requiring agile tactical airlift. Lt Col Belwood briefed us on the scope of the Texas National Guard’s 136th Group. It consists of a squadron of C-130H Hercules aircraft, a squadron of MQ-1 Predator drones, a squadron of F-16 Fighting Falcons and three other new State Cyber Initiative outfits. The group has approximately 1,000 personnel assigned and 203 Air Reserve Technicians. Major missions include air drops, personnel movements, cargo, etc. They perform air land missions into unlit airfields using only night vision goggles. Past operations include PROVIDE PROMISE, UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, JOINT ENDEAVOR, SOUTHERN WATCH, NOBLE EAGLE, and most recent operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. Civil support was provided for hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustov, and Ike. Their safety record is very impressive. No loss of life since 1965. Lt Col Belwood was presented with our handsome plaque commemorating his excellent presentation.

Laird Leavoy also presented Lt Col Belwood with a copy of a bound history book titled Second to None written by
Timothy M. Grace. It is a history of the 368th Fighter Group, of which Laird’s father Les served in and which evolved into the 136th Group. With this last column as Flight Captain, it is with a great deal of pleasure that I thank the following for their outstanding support to our flight: Dave Kinton as Vice Flight Captain, Ron Suter as Adjutant, Dave Shanahan as treasurer, Jack Thompson as Provost Marshal, Ken Wallace as Membership Chairman, Dan Heth as Programs Chairman, Bob Pavelko as Flyer/Editor, Dick Jones as Awards Chairman, Gordon Johnson as Chaplain/Awards, Michael Masterson as Chaplain, Al Kamback as Communications, Al Bruner as Assistant Treasurer, George Theis as Assistant Scholarship, Richard Fairlamb CFIP Chairman and Jim Rubalcaba as Assistant to the CFIP Chair. Without their support, we would not be ranked as one of the top Daedalian Flights. The evening meeting ended with Ted Harp winning the bottle of red wine and Jim Rubalcaba winning the bottle of white wine.
November speaker, Lt Col Rob Belwood, accepts a token of appreciation from Flight Captain Angelo Spelios
I wish all of you and your loved ones a Happy and Healthy New Year. Volabamus Volamus
