CLASSES BEGIN MONDAY, SEPT. 12TH! WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WELCOME BOTH OUR RETURNING & NEW STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO KICK IT UP A NOTCH ACADEMY OF DANCE.

PARENTS… THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS & SUPPORT WITH SCHEDULING, CARPOOLING, UNIFORM AND EVERYTHING YOU DO TO ENSURE STUDENTS ARRIVE FOR CLASS PREPARED & ON TIME. IT IS VERY APPRECIATED!

We are thrilled to announced KIUANS “2011-12” DANCE FACULTY MICHELLE GRAHAM ADAM MCKINNON MIKE MICINNES BRIANNA TUTINKA TONYA WEJR We also would like to welcome Miss Darlene as our new office assistant!

In preparation for the start of this season’s classes please read the following important information regarding class opportunities and “Studio Etiquette & Policies”. This is a lot of information but we ask that you please take the time to be informed as we head into our upcoming season!

CLASS OPPORTUNITIES Please remember that this year we have opened up an exciting opportunity for those students in which are determined to transform their dance abilities and levels!!! If you have registered for the “KIU package” not only are you able to dance in all your own available dance line disciplines but you are welcome to take any other ballet or turn’s and progression’s classes going on in our studio. You do not have to commit to a certain day or class this is by “drop in”. You may attend a Monday jazz one week and maybe a ballet class the following Tuesday. The only expectation is that you are respectful of the teacher and students in the class that you are dropping into. You must also wear your proper attire (your own dance line attire) as you are not expected to have many different uniforms. Any level regardless of if it is a higher or a lower level it is a wonderful way to increase your own personal technique and ability. Technical classes are a personal training tool. The age or level does not make a difference when it comes to self improvement. A couple of examples…..every dancer’s goal is to gain flexibility, strength, proper technique and confidence. If you are dropping in to a lower level class they may be working on single pirouettes….. well, you would work on your doubles. If you’re dropping in to a higher level and they are working on turning switch splits maybe you would work on switch splits or even try the turning switch. We as KIUAN’s love to encourage each other and keep a motivational and inspirational dance academy! This environment encourages a healthy relationship between our studio family as well!! The harder you train and the more you train the better dancer you become! Good luck and I hope that you all take advantage!!

“STUDIO ETIQUETTE AND POLICIES” When you enter the lobby…….Shhhhhhh! Noise in the lobby easily travels into the studio! In consideration of classes in session or Instructors doing prep work, please keep noise to a minimum—thank you.

Arrival Time: It is required that students arrive and are ready no later than 10/15 minutes prior to your first class. Arriving late or just on time is not acceptable on a regular basis and causes an unfair disruption to the class.

First Class of the Day: The studio door will open 15mins prior to the first class of the day. If you arrive and the door is locked your Instructor may be inside doing prep work. Please do not knock on the door and disturb them, they will open the door at the correct time.

Last Class of the Day: Please ensure your Instructor is not left to walk alone to their car at night! If one parent & student waits until the Instructor has locked up and is ready to leave it is very appreciated, thank you!

Warm Up: It is expected of students to use the time before class to stretch and warm up. With everyone warm and ready to go more class time can be used to work on choreography.

Change Room & Lobby: The change room is to be used only for students to change or to do homework during breaks between classes. Unless students are on a break between classes students are not to congregate in the change room as this causes a lot of noise and disrupts ongoing classes.

Time before class is to be used for stretching and warming up Please use the hallway and lobby area.

Students…..please be sure to clean up behind you in the change room and take ALL of your belongings with you! Please remove your empty water bottles from your studio at the end of your class. “Names”: As we have many students wearing the same uniform, please take the time to write your student’s name on their belongings. It is very easy to pick up the wrong bodysuit, shoes, tights, etc off the change room floor. Respect  As a sign of respect, female Instructors are to be addressed with the title “Miss” such as “Miss Tonya”  Please show your courtesy to your Instructor and be sure to thank them at the end of each class  Students are expected to be helpful, polite & respectful at all times  Kick It Up has zero tolerance of gossip, negativity and/or badmouthing of your studio or fellow students from parents or students. In the event of this happening parents and students will be asked to leave our studio.  Cell phones are NOT ALLOWED IN CLASS

Commitment: Kick It Up A Notch is for the “passionate, dedicated dancer” and requires a high level of commitment from our students and parents. Arriving on time prepared to give 100% in every class and being supportive of each other is essential for you & your teammates’ success and achievement.

Parent Viewing Day: Beginning in October, during the first week of each month parents of Junior & Pre-school students will be invited in to view your dancer’s group for the last 10mins of class. Your child’s teacher will open the studio door and invite you in for this time (please do not knock or enter the studio until the Instructor has opened the door). *Parents should contact the studio if there is a negative circumstance or concern and refrain from speaking negatively to other parents in regards to classmates, choreography, Instructors and or abilities of students etc. We expect all parents to communicate with the studio. Positive comments are always wonderful and greatly appreciated!

Attendance  If students are too ill to attend class please call the studio and leave a message for your Instructor explaining the absence.  Unless students are ill regular attendance is mandatory. Missed classes not only put students behind in class but takes time away from other students during the next class when time has to be spent re-teaching what you have missed. Attire: Just a reminder that is expected all students are in proper attire for every class. Students will not be able to participate in class without it. Second hand items: If any of you have second hand shoes such as ballet, jazz, tap, character and or character skirts that your child has out grown or no longer be needing perhaps you might be considering selling them to students at the studio who will need them. Character skirts in which will be needed are grade five and grade two. If you do have any items please bring them to the studio with your name, phone number and asking price attached. I’m sure a lot of parents would be very happy to purchase second hand items and save a little. If you are purchasing a second hand skirt please ensure that it is the right style, color and fit with your teacher before purchasing. Cancellation Policy: Scheduled studio closures are factored into class tuition and are not subject to a make up class. Please review our regularly updated calendar which will be posted in the lobby & on the website for a list of scheduled closures (subject to change). -Classes cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control such as extreme weather, power outages, etc will have a scheduled make up class. Be Informed: Throughout the season there will be many important notices emailed home, posted in the studio and on the website. It is up to you to stay informed. Please take the time to read your emails, come into the studio to view the information board or call/email if you think you may be missing information. Failure to be informed can lead to many potential problems.

Water & Snacks: Water bottles and snacks are available for $1.00/each or by purchasing a $10.00 snack card. Your card will be stamped each time you are given a water bottle or snack. Receive a free snack or water bottle when your card is full. Late Fees & NSF Cheques:  If you have already submitted payment for September tuition and costume deposits we thank you! Keeping you accounts up to date is greatly appreciated.  If you have not submitted costume down payments & September tuition they are due no later than September 1st. Please submit payment to the studio right away.  All late payments are subject to a 10% surcharge.  NSF cheques will carry an additional $15.00 surcharge. Hip Hop Students: Just one more reminder to BRING AN EXTRA PAIR OF CLEAN SHOES WITH YOU TO WEAR IN CLASS! No shoes, no class. Hip Hop students do not have a specific uniform but are asked to wear comfortable athletic clothing, not sloppy, with hair pulled back or put up.

Schedule: If you are unsure of your schedule please contact us for confirmation of your days & times. You will notice that our studio schedule is color coded. Dance lines are coded with a certain color. Example…grade 2 ballet will be pink as will their jazz, lyrical and turns and progressions classes. Please note that some students will be in mixed classes, therefore, not all classes will be perfectly color coded. Our scheduling is not open to suggested change. We must accommodate many staff members and dance lines along with the appropriate registration requests. This puzzle is extremely hard to adjust even by one change. We thank you for understanding and greatly appreciate all your efforts to make this schedule work! **Our schedule is subject to change due to KIUAN administrative conflicts. You will be notified of any changes right away. Thank you kindly for your understanding and patience.

Contact Information: Please contact us at any time for information. We have many parents email and apologize for “bothering” us with their questions when in fact we are grateful you come forward asking for information or clarification on subjects you are unsure of. We’re more than happy to respond to your inquiries. Please contact us:  Through our website www.kickitupanotch.ca under “Contacts”  By calling the studio 604-856-5980, your messages will be returned Thank You for taking the time to read this newsletter!
